Hi I have a fiat fiorino 1.3 multijet diesel 2009 plate. I have suddenly developed a very noticeable lack of power to pull away but once revs reach 300 it pulls also once I hit a hill to seriously dies off to the extent of dropping two gears. Any advice please as I keep getting different answers from Fiat main dealer. Thanks in advance Sean:

yarp.... I've had that issue before aswell (had the valve replaced) and just having it again.....even though we have to flog it to get up a hill to our drive (having been advised to flog it everyonce in a while to keep it unclogged (?) )....bloody EMS light has come on, had it checked n reset at a garage, later the same day the feckin light was back on again, took it to a garage to have tracking n brakes checked this morning and the sodding light didn't come on when we started up...:bang: had it booked in for tomorrow since Friday....may just get the valve changed save us driving all over the county getting things checked!

why do you keep going on about mot fail with the egr blanked off
you need to read the mot book

the egr valve will be there just a plate to cover the hole in the gasket
where the egr valve is fitted you would not or could not see any plate
so it all looks find AND WILL PASS AN MOT TEST

Time will tell.......plus it will depend on how efficient the tester is.
Regs is regs......like em or not.

Personally seems pointless removing the valve when you know you could get a auto fail.

But its a free country, you pays yer money and takes yer chances.

in my book its better to blank it off and forget it for £3.00
then pay over £100 for a new egr or keep cleaning it out
+ you don't get an engine and manifold full of black ****
and black smoke and if the mot tester gives you a fail take the plate out
get the test and put it back it its only every 12 months 15min job to do

Ok I think we need to clear this up ,
Nowhere in either the mot testing manual or any special notices can I find any RFR's relating to egr valve missing or removed , dpf's and cats are RFR's but not egr's I peronally think its a long way off aswell as there is no way of knowing if it should be fitted anyway or in most cases actually seeing it .

Blanking the EGR valve is a realistic option, bit fiddly, but better than removing the bugga, it needs to be visible for the MOT, and it may solve your problem.
However sounds to me like the MAF sensor next to the airbox, you need a diagnostic test really, should bring up some codes.

Sort of the point i was making, it has to be there if it was fitted.
These ''micro diesel'' engines are fitted to quite a few cars and any mot guy will know if it was fitted as standard or not just by experience.
Spoke to my dealer, and my van would fail if it were to be removed.........because it has to be there.
Why do people insist on removing egr valves, of all the diesels I've had I've had NO issues what-so-ever with egr valves...........ever, so what's the deal with them then?

that's what I said blank it off and you said

Great advise...........so now it will fail an MOT

DO NOT REMOVE OR BLANK OFF ANYTHING

I still don't get what all the fuss is about.......my Qubo has 26000 odd thousand miles on it, and I've never had any EGR problems. The car is serviced at the correct intervals, and the engine oil is as spec'd by Fiat, indeed my local main dealer do all the work.
According to them, EGR problems are rare.......................
Car is in the main used on local runs of only a few mile, with longer runs perhaps only once or twice a month...................
If these valves are a problem........its a mystery to me.
Fiat have to fit them to conform to EU regs, same as DPFs on newer cars. Mine has the EGR but not the DPF.
I'm still advised, that if it should be fitted and its not................MOT fail is on the cards.
Cheers Qube O.
