FIAT’s new C-segment contender, as previewed by the FIAT Aegea Project unveiled in May at the Istanbul Motor Show, is to be known as the new FIAT Tipo. The historic name has been used by FIAT since its earliest days and is now making a comeback on a global model designed to tackle the challenges of the future.

The new FIAT Tipo saloon measures 4.5m in length, 1.78m in width and 1.48m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.64m and boot capacity of 510 litres, meaning it can accommodate five passengers and their luggage with ease. As is the case with all FIAT products, a range of reliable, muscular and efficient engines will be available - two MultiJet II turbo-diesel engines and two petrol units with power outputs ranging from 95hp to 120hp, offered with manual and automatic transmissions (depending on engine).

Inside, the new FIAT Tipo is not only styled and built to the highest standards, it is also available with the latest technological features including FIAT Chrysler Automobiles' touch-screen Uconnect™ infotainment system with hands-free Bluetooth calling and audio streaming; a rear parking camera and TomTom satellite navigation.

The new FIAT Tipo saloon sports beautifully balanced proportions and a distinctive and perfectly-resolved design, yet even with its sophisticated styling and exceptional levels of build quality, the new FIAT Tipo will be a member of the “Functional Family” within the FIAT Brand, with an emphasis on value for money and practical features, as well as a straightforward model range and pricing structure.

Designed in Italy at the FIAT Chrysler Automobiles Centro Stile, and developed in Turkey together with Tofaş R&D, one of FCA's largest research and development centres, the new FIAT Tipo will be manufactured in the Bursa plant in Turkey which has been designated Gold Medal status by World Class Manufacturing in recognition of its efficiency, quality and eco-friendliness. It will retain the FIAT Aegea name in the Turkish market only.

The new FIAT Tipo saloon has not been confirmed for the UK market at this time.

It's a 'low budget' offering, designed to undercut the likes of the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra, so they're limitting the size of the engines. I suppose if you want more power in that sort of car you're expected to move to the Alfa Giulietta. Makes some sence to me - the last Fiat family car (2007 Bravo) was so close in price to a Giulietta that it rendered it a bit pointless, so this seems like a decent move to me.

Also, the MultiAir engines have given some grief in the earliest cars they were fitted to (Punto, MiTo, Giulietta) so I'd prefer to have the T-Jet 120 engine anyway. It's still a good engine, just more conventional than the MultiAirs :)

Yes, that makes sense and the Star Jet is a great engine, even if a bit low on power by today's standards. Didn't know about problems with Multiair. Do you think these engines are not fulfilling their early promise on account of reliability issues?

the TA and multiair system is a very CLEAN ( fuel efficient) way of fuelling an engine.. but needs relatively specialist care / maint.

so as I said previously - the cheaper simpler engines suit a budget car better.

very few buyers will give a "CHEAP" car expensive servicing.

Saloons never a great seller in the Uk surely there will be a hatchback version possibly like Bravo/Brava ?

Ah, the Evening Gazette, The Beard's late mother-in-law's favourite journal. Every night straight to the obituaries.

Her day wasn't complete without it. If it was a choice between the Gazette or food, she'd have starved to death, although she'd have gone to meet her maker with a smile on her face and the Gazette in her hand.

Eh? What? When? Despite being now almost six years old, our Giulietta MA is giving faultless service. Apart from the obstructive 1st gear as reported on the earliest road test cars, it's been very good.

During normal knocking about commuting type duties, it seems to give 39 to the gallon and on a holiday to Norfolk earlier this year returned a true, measured 43mpg which, although not in diesel territory, isn't bad for a five door, five seater that will get from 0 - 60 in around 7.5 seconds if you give it some.

The only thing we were warned about was the need to:
a) Make sure the oil was properly topped up, and
b) Use premium grade oil

as the MA system is hydraulically actuated with oil.

Happy reading! The Giulietta area of the forum has had many similar posts:

Don't get me wrong they're impressive engines, but unless they were the only feasible option for my circumstances I'd go with the more simple T-Jet, or a JTDm.

Hi Liam, good to hear from you again, it's been a while. I noticed your name on the odd post over there.

Actually, I'm having a little problem logging on as I couldn't remember my password and when I asked for a new one the link just sent me right back to where I had to put my password in again.

Then I sent Admin an e-mail who then sent me another link which I, er, sort of, well, forgot about so it's expired again. I'll try again in the next couple of days.

Thanks :) Yeah I've also migrated to Alfa Ownership - It was a toss-up between a Bravo and a MiTo but the lower running costs of the MiTo won out! Can't help but think the Bravo would've been more comfortable on the awful roads round here though - the MiTo is, shall we say 'firm' Think I'll go back to a Stilo/Bravo sized car next.

I can't log-in on Alfa Owner either. After that data breach when they reset the passwords I've not been able to suss it out. I must look into it properly so that I can post again.

Hope you're well :)

Data breach? I hope they didn't get my password for www.hugebreastedswedishteenagevirgins/middleagedmenwithfacialhair

Actually if they did it could be Mrs. Beard who breached security!
