the ime ha come to get the HGT bak on the road at long last!

After nearly 3 months (sorry Mum and Dad, 3 cars for me on the drive along with yours doesnt work...) the old girl s off for her test at 3pm today!

heres hoping all goes well :)

Now, to toddle off to the drive, set the steering wheel straight (its only 90 degrees out to the left) and check all the fluids etc :) taking it to a garage just around the corner from my mates garage, but its bout a 20min or so drive, so should give her time to warm up and cough all the crap up hopefully. Fingers are crossed

Andy_sx (getting worryingly excited about driving her again)

good luck fella :)

Cheers guys.

To say I'm feeling nervous is an understatement, but we will see.

Just looking forward to driving her to the test and back really lol

How did you get on mate? Fingers crossed for a pass!!

Chris

erm... well that didnt go too well:(

on the way over the breaks were shocking, no matter what i did, and only very very very slowly getting any life back...

then...

a mile away from my mates garage...

both the aux and air con belts snapped :( limpd it to the garage, engine not affected thankfully. got 2 belts plus tensioners on order for the morning and then see what happenes. if i can get the breaks sorted it should be ok.

On the plus side, i bloody love the sound of my car, yes its loud but dear god did alot of people turn around expecting to see something very expencive! lol

Andy_sx (supprisingly chipper considering)

Phew! Those belts snapping could have caused a hell of a lot more damage! You hear of them snapping and getting caught up in the cambelt and/or tensioner. Very very lucky they didnt.
Admitedly it aint what you wanted to happen but smile at how lucky you were not to snap the biggy!

oh bugger andy :( sorry to hear that...atleast she hasnt ended up next to Brav2....(sorry wimmy)

good luck for next time hey :)

it was unlucky indeed, esp as I was doing my utmost at that point (off the dual carriaggeway and on a quiet b road) to get some bloody life back into the breaks! (hand break deff works mind...)

Just fortunate that the belts kept out of the cam belt.

oh yeah, forgot to say... the frigging ABS lights on now aswell... we shall plug it into the diag machine to see what it says.

We all know the HGT is a heavy best, but try driving one without powersteering down a country lane! its an experience I can tell you!

heres hoping tomorrow is better. I shall be getting there for 9 to try and get some life into the breaks and then get the belts fitted when they are delivered around 10 ish, plus a full once over to make sure everything else is ok (even though ive already checked)

Having a mate with a garage and trade account does prove helpful, I can tell you. Especially given my current circumstances

On the plus side, she drives lovely, even if she doesnt stop. Pulls well (i forgotten how well they can just pull along and accelerate, not quite as good as the Saab mind, but its missing the turbo), drives nice with no crashing or anything (unlike the alfa)

HGT with no power steering or brakes :)
Was towed in mine a couple of times and can agree its an experience. With the car infront only a couple of metres away when you need to hit the non existing brakes it can be a bit of a heart flutter.
There are certainly heavy. Scotty hand winched mine on to his trailer to take back north of the border. It certainly took a bit out of him (I left him to it).
Hope it all gets sorted soon for ya Andy and as cheaply as possible. Fingers crossed

well this isnt going too great...

one belts turned up, the air con belt. the other one should be delivered tomorrow morning fingers crossed! got new discs and pads aswell for front and back, and have had to order an inner cv joint aswell... if thats not everything sorted I wont be happy.

now to see what tomorrow brings. Would have done more, but no 1 i was getting pissed off and no 2 I should really be looking for a new job... so i shall splut my day up in half

well both belts arrived yesterday, so got them fitted and jobs a good'un. power steering is back and alt light is out! lus no signs of cambelt issue touch wood.

Did the front pads piece of p as per, rear was going great, did the drivers side then on the pass side the floating 'bolt' in the pad carrier had siezed in, explaning the very odd wear pattern! unfortunately it reuires a new carier, which will be sorted for wed when i will do the remainder of the work, then get the MOT booked for thurs fingers crossed.

what a p about though... good job its not my onlyy car.
