I'm thinking of converting a Honda Accord 1.8 V-Tec and/or a Bravo 1.6 HLX to LPG.

If I do decide to go ahead I might convert the Honda first due to its higher fuel consumption.

Does anyone have any experience with LPG conversions?

Is is really economically viable?

I've heard that gas burns at a higher temperature in the combustion chamber an causes problems. Is this true?

Any help would be useful for me.

Many thanks

To decide wether its economically viable you have to look at your annual mileage. If you only do 10k then it'll take quite a while before you recoup your costs before you get into real savings you could be 18 months down the line..

If on the other hand you do 20k a year, its very worth it!

I've never run on lpg, but most folk i know who have done, have no complaints...

i know it gets said a lot but theres TONS of info and companies out there doing it if you google for it. Bravarab had his 1.6 brava done years ago and i dont htink he had any major headaches from it...

dont see him here often though. i'll try and bring this post to his attn

Wasn't this discussed not too long ago on here? :) So a search should bring you up some answers

Read the many posts about LPG. thanks

Sounds like a load of hassle to me, and I dont like the idea of my engines runnings hotter than they were designed to. Thanks Tom.

I do around 17k a year. At an average of urban and motorway mile, both cars get around 30 mpg. Thats works out at £2606 per year at a £1 per litre.

Gosh, that loads of money £2606, jeepers!

I'm now looking at getting a new Citroen C3 Diesel. 65mpg!But its so small. I now wish I never did the maths.

so long as you dont intend to dissapate another HGT i say go for it pal why not lol

Yes I suppose LPG would effect the performance of that great engine. I had a mate with that motor in a Fiat Coupe. Great drive, but always in bits in his garage!

Any other thoughts on a Diesel car for around 5k? I need a good boot.

I'm going off cars from Italy now, after 2 Alfa's and 5 Fiats, 2 from bran spanking new, they all seem to have given me grief with reliabilty.

I just cant be bothered messing about in my garage. Too much else going on in my life!

And I also have a new love, Scuba.

as much as it pains me to say this i would most probably go VAG

i've got a Skoda Octavia 1.9 diesel, and get 50mpg with a huge boot, comfy space for 5, really reliable motoring. I was about to sell it, but common sense won over, so i'm keeping it another year... lol

At 17k a year, diesel it certainly the road to go down, but dont be fooled by these 65mpg supermini's. They might be economical, but you lose so so much its not worth it. Stick to a diesel thats at least a 1.7 or 1.9 litres and has 100bhp as a minimum i'd say, cause then you get best of both worlds
