Had the jtd tuned and i think the clutch has seen better days. Slipping quite alot now but still perfectly driveable. Am i doing much harm driving it like this?
Thanks

Stu

What remap did you get and who did it? Whoever did the remap, did they not test the car for clutch slip. Normally they do. It shouldn't slip with a normal remap.

Well its not doing any good with it slipping, its just wearing the clutch down. Depends how bad it is. But drive it without harsh acceleration and it'll last longer.

well i wasnt really informed which remap, but they did say it was going to add 35-40 bhp. The clutch wasnt slipping then, but it is now! lol

What recommendations for an uprated clutch are kicking about? I have heard that a valeo clutch will handle 20% more power so im thinking i may get one fitted soon, what do you guys think?

Thanks

Stu

I've got a Brand New Valeo clutch with over 160BHP no clutch slip. :)

I have heard that you can fit a Stilo JTD clutch in but as far as someone trying etc i dont know if its 100% true. However it was Angel Tuning who told me this.

Helix do an uprated clutch aswell but costs alot. However i think they pulled it out of sale as it was smashing straight through the clutch plate.

I'm sure if you let them test on your car they'll let you have one for free. :)

Well it would be rude not for me to reply.

There are alot of different Diesel maps floating about & some have bigger draw back than others.

My 1st re-map was a Red Dot Racing map, which they had got developed from some1 else & it was quick!!

But the draw backs were, loads of black smoke, wheel spin everytime the turbo came in (1st & 2nd gear) and the clutch would judder and slip if you were in 4th or 5th and booted it!

Had the car rolling roaded & the fueling, torque and bhp were all over the shot... after 6 runs none matched!!!

Quickly went round to see nige @ Angel Tuning, where he returned the car back to standard form. Took it out for a test drive and gave her a diognostic to check everything was working just right.

He then loaded on his re-map and we went back out.

Results... it seemed slower and didn't have the kick but in reality it was slower but by 0.5sec to 60mph.... and top speed was down 8mph.

The most important change tho was, very little or no black smoke AND no clutch judder or slippage!

My car is now done over 80K on the original clutch & all's going very well!!!!

Stu, I'd contact nige and see if he knows anything about the re-map you have. If the cluch is really bad, then I'd change it and get the re-map sorted.

If it's worn this one out from normal driving ( a few map moments) then how long is another gonna last???

As for a Stilo clutch.... I'm very sure they are different and not a direct replacement. You will have to contact Nige for this info. I've been told a LUK bravo clutch will be fine upto 150bhp :)

cheers, Tommy

Dont wanna call Nige a liar but when i spoke to him face to face he told me something about a Stilo JTD clutch.

Maybe he tried and failed. Anyway i'm happy with my Valeo clutch.

Oh well ill have to look into it, by the way...Joske, what sort of MPG are you getting on long runs? ive just done a long run of 250 miles doin 70 all the way and have come out with 45 mpg with my JTD 100, was wondering if thats poor or not?

Thanks

Stu

hmmm so your tune has not reduced your fuel consumption, i mmay get back in touch with angel tuning.

You also have 17's yes?

Stu

Its all down to how heavy footed you are and how you drive. Driving hard will burn more fuel. Driving sensible will increast the MPG.

I have sometimes done 110 miles to £10, which is approx 45MPG. Depends on my driving, whether its motorway or town etc.

Dont forget different brands of fuel affects MPG as does underinflated tyres, high mile engines, old oil, old diesel/air filters etc etc. I do have 17's so infact that could give me inaccurate MPG readings as when i'm travelling 70mph im infact doing 71mph etc.

My car is regularly serviced and maintained and runs very smoothly. Dont forget having clutch slip doesn't help with your MPG.
