Found this on the saab forum, basically the insurance companies have lobbied the goverment so that very soon, even cars that you have declared as SORN meaning they are off the road, will still have to have insurance!!!

It will sure upset people who take there cars off road for a while to mod up, or repair them, or swap engines and stuff around like I did with my first kit cars

Totally rediculous.

there was something similar a while ago where they wanted you to tax you car when it was off road, ie if you were restoring a classic and it took 20 years you would also have to tax it for 20 years!

If you have to insure your car even if it is off road.

What is to stop people from claiming damages or parts being stolen due to the car being "in full running order" , i just never drove it situation.

It would be hard for the insurance companies to say otherwise so would cost them more repairing peoples cars for them, than they would get money for the cars being insured offroad.

I cant see this as the minimum requirement by law is third party, so if the vehicle is off the road, stored on private land, then the the vehicle will not come in touch with any third parties.
