My son has always fancied a convertable, but due to having to park in a public car park at work, and also because he would have to park on the road at night, he has been worried about damage or vandalism to a soft top, but just yesterday he went out on a test drive of the new VW eos, and also the new vauxhall astra twin top, both with metal folding roofs. The VW was dearing (obviously, lol) and to be honest, the interior looked a bit bland and staid. The boot space was terrible and the handling didnt inspire or ecite that much. He then went for a drive in the astra, interior much more modern looking, a bloody huge boot and the 1.8 engine wasnt too bad really. I think what swung it for him though, was the fact that the astra roof (which can be raised or lowered at up to 18MPH was also remote controlled from the key ring as well, so you can work it from a distance, lol.

Anyway, he traded in his punto and now has to wait about 8 weeks for his new one

Nice.

Brand new Convertable Astra = 18k?

After Finance paid off = 24k?

Sell it 3 years down the line = 7k?

Total loss = 17k

Average yearly loss = 5.666...k/year

Now I understand why people buy new cars :)

Yep, 18 K,, he got slightly over the glasses guide for the punto, so thats paid off with a little to spare, then a loan from direct line, obviously much cheaper than vauxhalls loan scheme.

I was looking at a nice tigra as well, lol

If he looks after it, maybe I will buy it off him,lol

To be fair though, he is earning good money, and just for once he wanted the pleasure (pain) of having a new car for himself.....yes, I pointed out some stunning second hand cars, but when you have your heart set on a new car, nothing else will do.

offence but id never get a car more than 2 years old EVER again. warrenty is a great peace of mind and is well worth the extra cash in my eyes

forgot to add they r very good cars... mum was gonna get one before she got her new jag s type.. (before u all go are u rich ect me and mum work at same company and it was renewal of company cars time)

the only thing that made her not get one. is that they didnt have a turbo version when she went to look at one and when we got there they wouldnt let her test drive it as it was a pre release and was on tour from show room to show room...

to say she was pissed off was an understatement... and watching my mum having an argument is like poetry in motion... the young lad didnt have a clue wat was going on and then she sped off in her merc AHAHAHAH classic

The 1.9 turbo deisel is supposed to be very good, but he couldnt afford the insurance, so didnt bother trying to angle for a test drive on that rarer model.
