As title really, am thinking of upgrading from my 1.4 to a 1.8. Will I see a difference in fuel economy?

yes, there will be a difference. it stands to reason that with an increased engine size, so will there be an increase in the amount of fuel needed to power it. so be prepared to spend more at the petrol pupms

But the 1.4 is shocking...around town i average about 18mpg, surely the 1.8 will better than that?

I'm no expert but could it not also be the case that a smaller engine in a same-sized body would have to work harder to move the same weight of metal. The 1.8 could do the same work with less effort and therfore be more economical in the long run.

1.4's were crap, I had one (P reg) moved to a 1.6 and my fuel costs dropped a lot.

I'd say the 1.8 is better than a 1.4

when even fiats own figures (and they're optimistic too) show that the 1.4 is less economical than the 1.8 ye have to figure there's something in it!
