Hi,

Me yet again with the latest on my wonderful problem free car NOT!

Previously posted about power steering problems etc, light heavy steering, engine cutting out etc. The garage are adamant the pumps fine and it is a engine problem.

I took my car back again yesterday and he to my surprise he has the diagnostic equipment for my car so he plugged it in and its come up with a code of faulty crank/rpm sensor.

Does anyone know if this could be the answer to the problems i been having lately??? I have read haynes manual to see what crank sensor does but im still unsure.

Did it go away after reset ?

It could be, there are two, one is the one that you are talking about and the other one is near the gearbox (sure on JTDs not on other).
The one that you talk about is under the cambelt cower, but I need the engine size to tll you where it is.

Was ok for a few days then started doing the same again, mechanic said it never showed up with this sensor fault when he did a diagnostics test the last time.

My engine is a 1.2 so this makes sense?i was just wondering it was just something else wrong and not the actual route to all my problems.
 
The crank sensor tells the ECU when to fire and when to inject fuel. If its faulty the engine will stop.
 
@Tom - if there are two of them, like on the JTD it will not. It will stall but will drive. On the JTD the one near the gear box is the one that makes the car not fire up, or die all the time.

The petrol engines needs both to run.

The crank sensor tells it when TDC is and the RPM, the cam sensor tells it which cylinders to fire as it takes 2 revolutions of the crank to fire all 4 cyls.

@Sven Im having the crankshaft sensor replaced tommorow £40+VAT

@Tom is this one sensor or are there two seperate ones.
