Thinking of replacing my foglights with an after market foglight which can be used and still remain legal under non foggy conditions.

Just need foglights dimensions.

Thanks

Joske

No foglight is legal under non-foggy conditions.

You are allowed 2 55/60W dip beams with the correct beam pattern, and thats all.

Well you don't know what i have planned, and it is definately legal. By the way i call them foglights but they are not known as foglights, i think they're driving lamps.

So as for the legal stuff out the way any ideas what the dimensions are?

Just the glass part of the foglight. Diameter across would do.

The lamps i have in mind are 100mm in diameter, also if the lamps have a two way switch for two various light settings would it be okay to wire them into the car to switch the lamps settings and still use the main foglight switch in the switch panel to power them on and off.

give me a bit and i'll go measure, mine are in the garage somewhere.
can't see why you can't wire it as you suggest, your original dash switch would just be first on the circuit.

Joske they are 80mm

Tom's right. Driving lights can only be used with main beam headlights. If the're below bumper level, only in poor visibility below 100 metres.

Why though, will the gestapo not let you use fog lights, which are mounted in the bumper when its not foggy? they dont dazzle anyone! i'd much rather all these facking great 4x4's used them, instead of their super Xenon million watt motherfuckers that shine right at you at head height..

anyway, that was a random outbursr. i guess i just dont see why its ILLEGAL when i cant see what harm it does.

But they do dazzle other road users. Do you not look in your mirrors? ;)

yeah, but its 4x4's i have bother with, not chavs with foglit nova's and corsas....

i think fog lights are worse than 4x4 lights.

The only time 4x4 users blind me is when they put the horse in the back and forget to dip the lights.

the worst lights on cars at the moment are the xenon pure white ones that the big mercs have - they are SOOOO bright - when there's one behind you on the motorway even if you dip your rear view mirror - the lights still blind you reflecting off your side mirrors - i have to move over and make him go past me - does my head in!! :(

the ones that are on the clio sport 182 and other cars aren't so bad - it's just the ones on the big mercs! :(

If you fitted a sidelight bulb, same as the ones in the headlight, into the foglights would that still class them as foglights, when all they give is a small glow of light.

P.s Thanks for measuring your foglight for me mate.

I think the ones i want being 100mm and the Bravo ones being 80mm may give me a real big problem. 2cm. DOH!!!!

Thats classed as a marker light (5W or under) so is ok.

As long as its white if facing forward, red if facing back or orange if its on the side.

The Mercs lights are so bright because they are HID's (High Intensity Discharge)...

You can get them for any car, the problem is they cost £600+.
