Sensor showed brakes needed doing, so managed my first pad change, wuhoo!

Thing is, the integral sensor wire on the pad was only showing where the rim of the disk had not worn (on one only of the internal pads), putting a groove into the pad. There's still half (6mm) left on the outer pads.

As it seems you go through two sets of pads for each set of disks, would/do any of you file down these edges to even the disk surface in readiness for the new pads??
 
IF the pads are worn unevenly then your callipers are sticking.

If the disc is worn REPLACE IT! DO NOT EVER EVER file them down.

Remember, this is the ONLY thing stopping your car smashing into the car infront. Are you SURE you want to risk your safety for a few quid?

I've already got new disks when I bought pads too(through mate for extra discount), but there dosn't seem that much wear on the existing disks. The pads wern't really that worn either, it's just that for some reason, the very edge of the disk hasn't worn, so has worn into the pad excessively (to make a groove only a couple mils wide).

Sticking calipers...mmm

Guess WD40 would be insufficient then.
Can you give guidance please which particular part of the caliper do I need to grease (probably obvious; am assumng I'll have to remove the caliper again, and prob pads too to perform the lube)?? cheers Tom

i change my rear pads and disks a few months ago and noticed they had worn unevenly making a slant on the pad and disk as i later discovered there is a alocating pin on the pad which fits into the grooves in the caliper piston to prevent the piston turning and the pin had been sat "on" the caliper

Nico, take the pads out of the calliper and ensure the bit of the calliper assembly with the piston in can slide on its mounts.

If it can't slide it will only be pressing properly with 1 pad which is not good for disc wear, pad wear or your wheel bearings.

I'll have another look. If by the mounts you mean where the two bolts are, these were able to permit movement (on one side that I can remeber at any rate) cheers Tom
