Sub Vibrations

Hi All

Some advice please, i have vibrations traveling round the chasis of my car, particular at the rear drivers side (the panel/wheel arch) when listening to my music at a "just above" normal volume. I dont know why this is happening, i have looked and there is nothing loose. I have moved the sub in the boot, turned the bass down....you know, all the stuff i can think of, but it still vibrates...and from the outside it is not nice..

Has Nay body got any ideas ?

Thanks
Kev :)

Get some sound deadening all over your panels etc - flashing tape is cheap from b&q or use the real stuff - this will make it sound better too!

Would i need to take the panels off and do the inside ??? i havent heard of doing that b4 so i am a bit unsure of how to approach it ?

Thanks
Kev

Yes you have to - it's not difficult, get a Haynes manual!

Honestly the sound difference is amazing, and I only have the original stereo and did the doors/boot floor/boot lid/ under rear seat. I am going to do the rear panels when I have time. Some people do behind the dash too.

ill pay some 1 to do my boot. :( rattling like a bitch from out side

surely it's easy enough to get the trim off on a Brava? Most of it will just pop off if it's like the Bravo...

re

i have put loads on my boot and still rattles,

well not really rattling, the whole boot mmoves? so guess i need to replace rubber or the little rubber feet or something?

re

two 15" mtx thunder 8000's

run off mtx monoblock 1000watt class d amp or whatever it was called.

i got it all about 2 years ago so its gettin a bit dated now but still is pretty loud!

re

yeah, on full whack i can see the reflection in my front doors vibrating even though they have layer of dynamat extreme ( i know your not the biggets fan of it!) on them

it feels a bit liek the glass is flexing on the rear window, lol, buti guess this is the whole boot moving!

i always enjoy placing my phone on roof and watching it bounce around !Lol

i dont htink i'd ever stop ratles and panels moving unless i can use expandable foam in door cards and in boot lid or somehting? i take it i can do this just hope i never have to change the lock or change my 3rd brake light?! lol

Re: re

mine doesnt rattle to much anymore. obviously it vibrates but i have used a fair bit of sound deadening. I got a layer of dynamat x plus 5 layers of aquaseal on the doors then about the same around the rest of the car. my subs arent anything special but the are unbelievbly loud when turned up. I have 2 12inch poineer vccs subs capable of 300rms each. The amp is a cheap one but it perfroms well. when up loud its hard to breathe properly in the back of the bravo ;) i love it as im always in the front. I know the sound quality will be better in mine with all the sound deadening and the boot build layout but its suprising how good it sounds.

Re: re

I was very suprised when I heard Bills for the first time. he only has a 10inch rockford but when in the car it actually sounds really good all through the range. :)

reminds me of...

Reminds me of the time I was listening to Hyperballad by Bjork in my room with the volume cranked up..ceiling on the left-hand side decided to fall in as the subs registered the bsaa line in the song...left a nasty stain in my pants..

Re: reminds me of...

Allan,

Have u tried the injectable foam into the chasis? Apparently it also reduces noice and vibrations but I do not know if it s practicle in the long run. I heard some people say it may cause the chasis to rust. Are there any holes in the chasis that allows for water (i.e. rain) to pass through? if there is then blockage of this holes (with foam) will probably cause a disaster!

re

i did think aboutit, but with fiat wiring if you had to do anythgin witha cable or get to somewher you woudl have to chip all the foam away? lol might buy loads of foam to squash in?

Re: reminds me of...

8 sheets of extreme and 4 sheets of ivanhoe, and I didn't even cover half the interior! Must of used 5 sheets just doing the boot, never mind the patchwork on the door panels (bloody awkward to cover extremities). Used up a whole role of roof insulation in rear quarters and squashed foam into the rear door!

Sounds excellent now, not a rattle. But this is since I totally uprated the speakers, HU, and got a sub, so no rattles were evident before anyway.

Re: reminds me of...

You need to put deadening on both skins of the boot lid, the plastic trim on the bootlid, the boot floor, the wheel arches, the plastic trim, the light covers, everywhere!

I've still got a rattle at 18Hz :)

Re: reminds me of...

"I've still got a rattle at 18Hz"

Not that its like you Tom, to test the full frequency range and see if there are any vibes anywhere at all, at any time.
So my fully sound-deadened car, i guess i'll have to add more sound deadening to it. Think its worth trying to do the roof with aquaseal? Gonna get that sub and amp soon, just as soon as i decide which, and what amp, and find the £200 for it.
