hi there can anyone help

as i started to drive my bravo tonight it let out a high pitch whining noise for about 20 seconds then stopped.
this is the first time this has happened.
my friend says it sounds like the fanbelt has gone is this true?

the car drove and felt fine after the initial noise but i am worried that driving it may be harming the car could someone tell me if this is true.

and also if it is the fanbelt how much am i looking at to get this repaired?

any info would be great.

my car is a 51 reg bravo 80sx with 40k miles if that helps.

yeah suppose it could be described as a screech, it was a very high pitched sound thats all i know

Please can someone help, i dont want to drive my car again until i know that it aint doing more harm.

fanbelt would be about £15.. If thats what it is, and its quite likely...

You will probably find it does the same thing on damp mornings...

Mine has just started, but its fine in the dry... :(

Mine does it a lot when idling, been doing it since I had it (18 months ago) and have notcied no effect.

It's just a loose/slack belt nothing to worry about. You'll notice if anything happens as either the power steering will get heavy, your brakes will get awful or your battry light will light up on your dash.
