went driving today, and the engine is so retarded its unbelieveable, i was doing 70 in 5th and stuck my foot to the floor. the car started to pick up speed but the rate was so slow, then i got to a hill, and the bloodything lost speed, what is wrong, is it my gear box cos its making some strange noises, ie if i stick my foot down in 3rd gear at about 3000 rev's i can hear a ratterly sound and then i hear it again if im de-accelerating from 5000 in 3rd (does this in all gears) wat do i do,

most popular test is to drive in third, put your foot down and see if the road speed increases at the same rate as your rev counter.

i have my doubts as to wether its your clutch though.

Have you tried re-setting the ECU?

Leave you battery disconnected for at least 12 hrs, then drive normally for a hundred or so miles...

Lee, it's your clutch.

Expect to pay around £125 at a non franchised garage, but doing some ringing around first and avoid the "High Street" garages.

if the clutch was slipping, then surely the revs would have increased as he was going up the hill, and the speed would have gone down?

i think your engine has lost power.

but y, and ecu can lose power like that and the ratterly noise is mechanical it hard to explain but it dont make sence
