Re: Re: Front windscreen

I think even if you have 3rd party your windscreen is covered.

What insurance company? I've just done a big web site for a large broker company, it has lots of information on what different insurance company do.

Also has some very interesting information about car mods, what they accept and dont like.

If you need to know I'll take a lok for you

Re: Re: Front windscreen

John,

Interesting comment you make about what insurance companies do and don't like.

When I got my HGT, it had ventialetd discs front and rear, so I rang up my insurance company who said they couldn't cover me! Strange, I thought, so I asked to speak to the supervisor, who checked with the underwriters who said it didn't matter and they could insure me! As it happens, there was also a K+N filter fitted, which they weren't bothered about either!!! By the way, this was immediately removed as all they do is give 10% more noise.

I rang around a bit and only one other "major player" said they couldn't insure me as the brakes had been modified. How queer, as they would however, insure a car that had steel whells as standard modified to alloy wheels. No wider than one inch from the originals, mind you!

THE LESSON HERE, ALL YOU MODIFIERS, IS CHECK WHAT YOU ARE COVERED AND WHAT YOU ARE NOT COVERED FOR. HEAVEN FORBID THAT YOU HAD A BAD ACCIDENT - WOULD YOU BE COVERED WHEN THE ASSESOR COMES OUT?

There's something for all you Piper-X, Dimma, Show, Koni, Marzocchi, Wolfrace, Arbarth boy racers to think about.

No sarcastic replies please, this is a statement of fact.

Re: Re: Re: Front windscreen

many abarth parts are fitted as standard so i would hope that isn't too much of an issue, and what if your really fat and need uprated shocks? It's discrimination, that's what it is!!!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Front windscreen

There's a difference between additional options and modifications.

I would suggest that you check with your insurers. Strongly.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Front windscreen

And I suggest you check with yours again...

When I wanted to fit my s/steel exhaust I did the same as you and checked with my insurers who said they couldn't cover me. I (like you) asked to speak to a supervisor who checked around and said it was not a problem and I would be covered. I got the exhaust fitted but when I came to renew was told that they couldn't cover me and had been uninsured for just over a month :(

I complained etc. as I had even recived an aknowledgement letter for ammending the policy but it did not state what the ammendment was and I was told nothing they could do and if i'd crashed I would have been voided. Worth checking with your insurer that it has definately been added to your policy.

I love the way insurers ask you the question "Is the car modified in any way?" and if you say yes immediately respond with "Sorry we can't cover/insure you." why not? "Because we're a low risk insurer" But I have over 10 years driving, maximum no-claims, no points, and no fault accidents, how the f**k am I a high risk driver ? Grrr

(Rant over)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Front windscreen

Why would I want to check mine again - I have just renewed it, hassle free. Unlike you.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Front windscreen

but i thought you have millions of mods on ure 200bhp fiat? lol

Re: FAO JohnP

Sorry can't post a link as it's an intranet site.

As we developed it we have a copy in house.

The staff at this big broker (have shops on the high street, sounds like a town on the M4 between bristol and reading) use this information when you call them up so it interesting stuff.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Front windscreen

No, its only 154bhp and mod free - as far as I know.

A mate of mine bought a 2nd hand Vauxhall Cavalier.
It had Vauxhall alloys on. He presumed they were standard. Had a prang, insurance assessor took one look at the wheels and guess what.....not standard.
Previous owner had them fitted without telling his insurance company. Took my mate 7 months to sort it!

Mark.
