John Lewis have just commissioned a hull firm to equip 5 stores throughout the country with special glass which can produce sound allowing them to advertise special offers audibly to passers by. Give it a few years and this could make an interesting car stereo! lol

Nothing new!
The technology to make a sheet of glass act as a speaker has been around for a few years now.

Re: Re: We look to the future!

Didn't they do something about this on Tomorrows world years back? Think they had paintings that were loudspeakers using cellular speakers or something. Suppose they must have moved it on somewhat.

Shabash!

i saw the picture speakers a few years back, i think warfdale were making them. This is the first time i've seen glass! i don't watch tomorrows world :-/

Would make a change from tinting. Stick a couple of Monet's in yer rear quarters and have the speakers at ear level and some attractive sun visors at the same time!

Nice. :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: We look to the future!

Isnt it just those stick on speaker that turns the glass into the cone of the speaker, if so, i had a set from www.Firebox.com about 3-4 years ago. They are ok, pretty good sound, especially during a BBQ, if you have patio doors. :)

Tried them in my car once, but they keep falling off, and you cant stick them on with glue etc. because you loose all the sound quality. :(

You do get some funny looks.

No, it is actually the glass that is the speaker. I forget what they are made of, put basically it contracts and expands very quickly in response to and electromagnetic field.
