howdy,
i have a 1996 fiat bravo 1.4, and have just replaced the standard fiat air filter with a green
cotton air filter. its the one where you open the air cleaner
lid and simply swap the old filter element with this new one.what i'd like to know is, do i need to take the car to a garage
to have it professionally set up now that it has a better air filter?

a friend of mine said i should check whether it is necessary.

thanks folks!

Reset the ECU

some one recently posted this:

Take the negative feed off the battery, leave for 10-15mins re-connect it and go for a 10mins drive using all gears at various engine revs.
That should re-set the ecu settings.

There is nowt you can do to 'set it up' so to speak. What you should do is take the battery off for an hour or so (not the 10 mins some say) and then the ECU will slowly relearn the engine over the next week or so of driving.

The ECU won't learn a thing if you hoon about always accelerating and braking, it only learns on steady state driving once the engine is warm, usually 10-20 mins.

Tom - should this be done after fitting an Ecotek? I have only covered 350 miles with mine fitted so it still needs bedding in fully. What do you think?

You should really do it every time you do something that will affect the fueling, ecotek, filter, injectors, exhaust etc..
