I have noticed a whistle which seems to be coming from the back of the engine compartment, but is heard only from inside the car. FIAT have had the car several times but were unable to diagnose the problem.It occurs when the car is in motion and seems worse when the engine is warm, and stops if the clutch is pressed down or in neutral. The noise is also louder when in lower gears. Any ideas as this is driving me mad??!!

How many miles on your motor?

Sounds like gearbox noise to me. Probably just the noise of the layshaft gears meshing. Helical gears make that sort of noise as they start to wear although its nothing to worry about.

57,000 miles on the clock, is it easy or worth fixing?

Mine is now 61k and starting to make noise too. Probably easier just to leave it be.

Turn the radio up more.
