I'm off to buy my first decent car. I've narrowed down the choice to 1997 or 1998 1.4sx or a 1999 80 16V (I've been offered a 'T' plate for a good price just

Get the 1.6

The 1.6 will give you the same (or better) fuel economy as the 1.4 with much more useable performance around town and on the motorway. You have to screw the nuts off the 1.2 to get anywhere, which obviously also hurts economy. Look back in the forum and you will see the same advice - please get the 1.6 or you will regret it later (doesn't cost much extra either).

G for 1.6

Hi!
I have 1.4 brava. Very bad fuel consumption any lazy engine.

I agree..!

Before you go off and buy a car with the small engine I hope that you at least take the time to test the 1,6.

Just wondering: What is a "T-plate"?

1.6 Definitely Better

I had a 1.4 SX before this new JTD one and one of the main reasons for the trade was the high fuel consumption. The 1.6 doesn't use much more fuel and has much more "heart". Mine used to "drink" up like 11 litres in town which was an abuse. Always keep in mind that smaller engines have to eat up more fuel to get the weight of the car moving (extra strength).

T-plate

T-plate just indicates the year of registration in the U.K. i.e. 1999 for a T, 1998 for an S and so on. Thanks for your advice, I'll try and find a 1.6 now!

Cheers
