anyone got any clues to whot type of oil my 2002 2liter jtd ducato takes? cheers

If you have had a definitive answer to this I would love to know. I have a motorhome on a 2005 ducato 2.0 JTD. The hand book says Tutela Matryx along with the specification API GL 5. Only problem is tutela matryx is API GL4. I have never had a vehicle with as much confused info as this. The Castrol website recommends an API GL4 spec in Castrol universal plus but quotes a capacity of 2.1 litres. The handbook quotes a capacity of 2.7 litres. HELP.

2.1 litres of 75w synthetic gear oil. Drain out what's left, throw it away and fill from the breather at the top. It's been a year since I refilled mine, but I seem to remember that it was best to take out the aircleaner assembly to get to the filling point. While you're at it, lubricate the swinging lever of the gearchange assembly or it will eventually seize.

I recommend GL4 for motorhomes; GL5 is harsher on the synchro surfaces and loss of synchro at quite low milages on motorhomes is quite common.

I have 2 litres of GL-4 EP80W-90 and 2 litres of GL-4 SX75W-90 bought for my motorhome but MH sold before oil needed changing. I can send to you at ebay cheapest price.

Capacity depends on the age of the gearbox, I think. The older boxes had an "added" fifth gear which was slightly above the rest and needed a bit more oil for lubrication. I had an '86 Talbot which used 2.7 litres.
I can't tell you when the configuration changed, but I'm about to put 2.7 litres into my W-reg 2.8...

I only use GL4!

The syncro will miss with GL5!
Also in mine VW camper! I have tried! To bad....

Put 2.7 litres on, not 2.1 litres......................the extra helps the "splash-over" lubrication of the 5th gear. There were a lot of early failures of the 5th gear cog before the recommended amount of gearbox oil was increased.

I've lost syncro on 2nd and 3rd on my motorhome, would changing the oil bring it back or is it (as I've been assuming) a case of replace/rebuild the box?
