Hi
I am a new here. I have a Ducato 120 2009 that will require a new sump, according to the mechanic.
Are the replacement sumps and gaskets found on ebay worth buying ?
Or would an O/E sump & gasket be a safer bet in the long term ?

Thanks
Ed

Hello,

I recently used an after-market sump supplied by a customer and have to say that i was surprised to see that the paint quality was a good deal better than the OE items! Nonetheless, every time i replace a sump i rub it down a little, etch prime it and finish off with spray underseal. It's bad enough to have to do this job once!

Theres a good chance the ebay one will be better, SOFIM seem to have made the OEM ones out of recycled bean tins.

If you rub it down and give it a coat of paint before you take it for the annual test you will never ever need a new oil pan. I was baffled when I read this post at first, how can a sheet metal sump ever need replacement I thought?

Never had this problem with old engines because they leaked so much oil. So I just smear a bit of engine oil over the oil sump. I would rather rely on oil than paint and underseal especially on a surface that gets hot - I have often found rust growing beneath paint and underseal but never beneath oil.
Would have to tell the customer you had smeared the sump pan with oil though - or they might think you hadn't fitted it properly so it was leaking?
