Hi I'm a newbie and my 1st post...here goes.I have a '97 1.9 ducato motorhome, and the engine has gone bang I don't really want to put another 1.9 in it.would a 2.3 or 2.5 be a straight fit? Hadhas anyone done this before? Your info/knowledge will be grateful.thankyou

The Ducato 10 gearbox is sadly inadequate as things are, with a bigger engine driving it things can only get worse. You would be well advised to either replace with the same engine as you have, or transplant the entire engine/gearbox unit which may be a major headache.
