Hello
Have 2002 build 2.8JTD in Western Australia that has done 160,000 km commercial operations. After starting to fill very near empty fuel tank with 3.3 litres unleaded the rest was diesel. General consensus is that 5% might not have lead to problems but it ran and started until the red injector light came on. Continued running and drove it home where it was stopped and has remained stopped since then. Diagnosis was that problems linked to fuel contamination as it had done between 100 and 200kms before going terminal. Cleaned out tank and low pressure lines inc replacing fuel filter before putting new diesel in tank. No sign of starting but when ethanol based spray squirted into engine it bangs. So there is a fuel supply problem between injection pump and injectors. I had thought the petrol had wrecked the injection pump but the vehicle is now with the local bosch injection shop and they assure me that the common rail has 200 bar pressure but the codes that they are pulling from the engine indicate some sort of immobiliser problem with the injectors getting no power. They are at a loss to work out what the problem is and I had half expected their tech to have already posted here looking for answers. He has not got a lot of hair to pull out but the excess testosterone ain't helping him sort what is a pretty ancient unit in terms of his usual clientele. As the bosch dealer I had thought best to give them the problems but am now concerned that the codes for this model are unreliable at best of times. However would ECU have allowed engine to continue running after warning light came on before going terminal subsequently? Any thoughts from smarter people than me (not hard given the unleaded exercise) or, possibly, the tech fellow?

If its starts with easy start it cant be the immobiliser.

I would do a leak off test on the injectors.

As far as I can member the 2.8 needs 250 or 280 bar to fire.
