This is an update to a previous thread.

Started with a rubbish FIAT Uconnect 5 Sat Nav Radio. Removed that and replaced with Blaupunkt 945.

1 Problem .. The UConnect 5 is a Single DIN Unit whereas the Blaupunkt is Double Din. You need a Dremel or something similar to remove the unwanted plastic.

2 Problem .. Once the New Blaupunkt was fitted the Mileage Flashed.

3 Problem .. No way to set date and time you need the UConnect 5

First bit was easy with a Dremel and a NEW Ducato ..
No Date and time is sorted by getting the Ducato PROXI Reset and telling the vehicle it has an aftermarket radio fitted.

This also stopped the Mileage Flashing

4 Problem .. No SWC Steering Wheel Controls.

Fitted a Connect2 unit that worked but the mileage started flashing again. When the Vehicle was PROXI Reset again it showed it had a radio fitted and date and time change not available  Also some of the buttons on the steering wheel did not work with the Blaupunkt Unit. Removed unit and PROXI Reset. Date and time now on MENU Button. No SWC

Found a CX-401 from a supplier in Germany. Shows it works with Blaupunkt and others. Ordered one and fitted it. Steering controls worked perfectly but back to flashing mileage.

Back to Sherwood Truck and Van ( Thanks for your patience ) Plugged in to diagnostics and shows Unexpected Control Unit ( Entertainment Telematic Module ) so removed CX-401 and everything Ok but no SWC Module.

The problem is that the FIAT CanBus does not like anything it's not expecting. Anything you add to the CanBus has to be DUMB and just listen.

Consulted Supplier of CX-401 and there is a software update 1.2.4 .. Updated this afternoon and guess what ..

IT ALL WORKS :) :D (y)

So I now have a Blaupunkt Android Sat Nav with IGO 8 Software, FM and DAB Radio, SWC that work and I can change the date and time using the MENU button on the dash.

How did you find the quality of the DAB reception?
I just picked up new ducato, with the Uconnect 5 out of date crap, but to be fair it can stay in for now, don't use the sat nav as no live services, prefer separate Tom Tom

However DAB is used all day and night,
Dealer ordered vans with aerial in roof, not wing mirror, so he says!

Upon inspection of mirror connections under window switch, all looks normal, so he could be correct

But reception is the worst I've known, can drive one direction with great reception, drive back up the road and it drops out!

Giving impression it is an aerial in the mirror (body of van blocking reception maybe)

Interested to hear your findings and thoughts

I'm thinking of buying a roof mounted DAB aerial like my previous one, from DAB on wheels, a berating amplified, which never let me down with a kenwood DAB head unit.

Also can you if you still have the Uconnect unit, take a photo of the rear and close up of DAB aerial output so I can see if an adapter is reqd if I do replace aerial

Many thanks

Neil

How much was the CX 401 and where did you get it from?
Is the existing aerial still powered with the new adaptor?

We have a Laika Motorhome and the DAB ariel is in one mirror and the FM ariel is in the other. The Blaupunkt 945 uses a separate DAB receiver that plugs into the Sat/Nav .. Very impressed with radio reception. The mirrors we have are top hung ones high up like you see on buses only smaller. You will need an adaptor if you remove the Uconnect 5 as it has a small plastic connector. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC5-100-C...hash=item3cb55274bf:m:mrFrlNCj1trMt7jUFT7wPZw. They have a plastic pin to stop you pluging the wrong ones into the wrong socket but a stanley knife soon sorts it out.

Here is a link to CarAudio-Systems CX-401 Unit

If you email them they will tell you where you can buy one from. They were available on Amazon at one time.

Address and contact details on last page of PDF

Many thanks for the info.
Mine is an Android unit S160 but I don't have steering wheel controls.
