I drive an Autotrail Tracker on a ducato. Driving up through France last week, I got stuck behind a tractor pulling tons of hay. A lot was flying everywhere. It was a very hot day so I had the fan on to cool me and the wife. Before I could back off some straw my have entered to pipe work and the fan started to go click click click. It. Now doesn't work so I assume there is some straw stuck in the rotating bit of the fan. Anybody got suggestions as to the way forward, and how do you get at the fan to confirm my suspicions:)

Is it an X250 ? I have looked at mine and there is a mesh in the bonnet air inlet scoop and then a finer mesh filter in the part fitted to the body. It would take a determined bit of hay to have made its way to the interior.

I was in Haystorm for a few miles and the fan started clicking after that so I assume a determined French straw wanted to sabotage a Brit after Brexit.

Lucky you weren't in a $hitstorm as you know what happens when that hits the fan!!! :)

Ha ha has anybody got any real ideas of how to remove straw. I hope it's not " remove Dashboard and take apart all the electrics" that is beyond my skill level. I did remove Dashboard but chickened out on going further. The amount of cabling looked like the back end of the ISS.

What model is it, if its got a lot of miles/hours on it the clicking could be the brushes gone.

It's a Ducato 11 MWB JTD TRACKER that's what it says on the reg. Doc. Only got 29,000 on the clock and all was working well right up to following the tractor, then click click click and now when I try the fan....nothing.its my guess that's its straw, what else can it be?

Update. Bit the bullet and took off the glove compartment and exposed back of fan. There is a little inspection tab on the back of the fan and I prised it off and turned the motor using my finger. There was a little"click" as something snapped and I put the connections back on and tried the fan. IT WORKED! Lucky me, now waiting for a bit of straw to come out of on of the air vents. Lucky lucky.

Hi Ralph
The airfilter is usually upstream of the fan and it is supposed to stop pollen so straw wouldn't pass through this unless it is missing or blown?

Most coachbuild manufacturers ordered the cheapest possible cab or chassis cab only the 244 models with air conditioning came with pollen filter.

Even so I would expect even the most basic filter to stop straw! With the filter in place there is absolutely no way large particles can find thier way into the fan or heater matrix. ..

When it goes in for its annual service I will ask them to check for the filter. My days of under the bonnet exploration is now limited to filling water bottle for windscreen but thanks for the info you are all very friendly and helpful with a touch of humour[emoji2]

Where does the filter go?
I can undo the grill that goes just under the windscreen wiper and exposed is the air entrance, I think, to the blower. It is just an upturned piece of plastic without any kind of filter covering. Is that what the filter fits over as kind of elasticated mesh bag? All this is just guess work as I may be looking in the wrong place[emoji848]

As I said most likely there is no filter. There is a whole extra box of gubbins there if you have a filter.

This is getting technical[emoji45]❗️ what and where is this box of gubbins?

Thanks for the website but trying to translate into English seems to be rather difficult. I have been looking on e bay at parts for the air vents and nothing seems to much under my bonnet but I will carry on looking. When I take it in for its annual service and habitation check I will ask some one to explain what and where ( if they are there) anything that connects to the airflow into the cab[emoji15]
