Technical Mk I 2.5TD valve and seal replacement

Hi guys,

Thanks agin for all your help. Went to local Halfords today but they didn't have the additive with seal restorer.

Corcai, apologies I didn't see your last reply, weather was not good here today but i will have a look to see if there is a spigot somewhere without a hose attached hopefully tomorrow.(y)

Okay additive added,

Can't drive the van as MOT has now expired but let it run for 30mins and its definitely better than before. I'll keep running for a week or so until I've got a few bits of welding done and a faulty indicator fixed. Hopefully by then it might have made a bit more of a difference. One thing of note though is that I'd not long done a service so oil was pretty much at max. Think this has put it over so had to drain some out.

I'll update in about a week hopefully.

Thanks again everyone

Okay, decided to strip out the turbo and exhaust manifold to see if the fault was with the turbo or the engine. I'm going with the valve stem seals on two cylinders given that there is an oily residue in the exhaust ports. Turbo looks and feels spot on.
At the moment I'm up for stripping the head off but looking for advice or guidance on doing it and obviously putting it all back together.

Also looking for somewhere to supply head gasket, stem seals and head bolts if anyone knows of a good supplier/stockist.

Mileage on van is 107,000 ...

Snap!

Did you get to the bottom of your problem? My 8140.47R has similar symptoms.

... there is a box on the crankcase which has a gauze filter built in to it ...

Is this on the front of the engine? Did you have to remove the box to access the filter? And does your PCV system also have a one-way valve halfway between the crankcase and air inlet?

TIA ...

Thats the breather, make sure the hose to the intake isn't kinked or blocked.

Adult lung capacity is about 6 liters so if you blow out slowly it will give you an idea of how little blowby there should be at tickover. You don;t need to measure it if its as bad as you describe.
Have you heard of a product called FTC decarboniser..People swear by it.Claims to stop blow by
