Original factory specs required 2 liters but that was updated ages ago to 2.7 liters supposedly to allow better lubrication of the 5th gear set which is in the external housing on the outer end of the gearbox. Some people fill through the reverse switch or breather which are right next to each other on the top of the gearbox - see previous post with links to pics from a few days ago.
Filling through the speedo hole at the back of the gearbox (from underneath) I think maybe is easier, being very careful you don't drop the retaining bolt/washer in the hole. Most people have trouble even finding the reverse & breather hole. You have to take the intake hoses off the air cleaner etc to even see them.
