Hi all, newbie here, I purchased a second hand Ducato 2.3 Multijet 120 57 plate with 169k on it, private seller, drove fine when I test drove it and was fine driving home from Blyth about 80 miles, I have made about 4 trips to town about 8 miles away and drove fine there, but in town it started cutting out a few times, I thought I just stalled it as its quite nippy when pulling away in first gear, after it stalled, It started first time and was fine but engine management came on, so I went for lunch and after about 20-30 mins engine light went off, thought nothing of it, but today it cut out about 8-9 times while trying to get home, always after driving up to a junction or roundabout and when I go to pull off it stalls, but starts fine after stall and drives fine when not slowing down for junctions etc, always when I go to pull off the revs just drop and it stalls.

So took it to my local garage (not fiat) and they put on diagnostic machine and it cam up with the following codes:

P0089 - Fuel Pressure (high pressure pump input regulator)
P0091 - Fuel Pressure (high pressure pump input regulator)

have seen these codes on another thread but had Low pressure next to it, can anyone shed any light on this before I shell out a fortune on stuff that isn't the problem, much appreciated.

Hi, and welcome, :)

worth getting a 2nd opinion,
a specialist program for FIAT / Alfa diesels MAY give more info.., ;)

where is the vehicle based..??

Hi and thanks for your input, van is located in St Boswells in the Scottish borders, nearest fiat dealer is Galashiels but is just a car dealer and I think they share the same workshop with Nissan across the road as its the same name on the garage, but not sure, but the stalling is getting worse but starts ok

also the garage were using a snap on diagnostic machine with loads of program chips attached with it.

My old 2.3 of same yr developed same issue, and read same codes at a garage, took it to a diesel specialist who said no, it was injectors.
So, £1000 for new injectors plus another £2400 for removing the sheared off injector bolts, a service and cambelt later, it had exactly same issue!

Replaced fuel pressure reg' £120
Job sorted.

I would look at that first, but defo worth a 2nd opinion

Mine stalled when setting off in 1st, would re start, engine management light on, then when left to cool, light would go off, until it stalled again mainly when warm.

well I hope its not the injectors other wise it will be getting burnt out van not worth all that money, taking it for 2nd opinion tomorrow and fingers crossed its something less expensive.

could it be a fuel filter problem as I it has been suggested twice today to replace that first, but am sure that's most mechanics first thoughts or away of making a fortune out of you lol

Try giving the regulator connector a wiggle and looms a shake to see if it replicates the problem before shelling out. Also worth removing the regulator and checking the tip for filings as its magnetic and can accumulate wear particles. Check the connector for corrosion.

I'm not mechanically minded, no idea where the regulator is on these, can you tell me where it is cheers.

well fuel filter didn't clear the problem as 2nd and 3rd opinion says to try with the cheapest first, next stop deeper diagnostic and hopefully they check pressure regulator and sensor.

hi check wire to injectors ther is a topic some were ab wire to injectors being to tite to no 4

garage have checked all that, they also took one of the regulators on the top which are common to knacker up, but said mine is in tact, so based on that are wanting to change the one on the back of the pump at a cost of £225 but am sure there are cheaper but cannot find one anywhere.
