Hi guys!

I bought a Ducato 2.8 JTD year 2006 two weeks ago, 57K miles. It was off the road for more than 1.5 year.

Timing belt, water pump, brake pads and unfortunately fuel pump changed, oil service done except fuel filter.

At high rev the red engine light on the dashboard is switching on (+2500) for a few seconds, and is switching off when the rev is falling down a bit?

What could be the cause? Will change the fuel filter next week - I think the fuel pump went bad from being off the road for so long -.

Thanks.

Get a code reader. If it's been idle I would lift out the sender and check the tank for rust.

I would check your dump valve attached to the turbo. Its a mechanism shaped like a little water tower with a a rod coming from it attached to the turbo by a few bolts this rod moves back and forwards, opening and shutting the exhaust valve. This activates the valve that regulates the exhaust gases. When Campers are packed for a period the rod becomes a bit rusty and sticks thus stopping the gases form being used effectively hence an engine warning light comes on. To locate the turbo at the lower rear of the engine. Spraying releasing oil and giving the dump vales a clean in situ sometime rectifies this. You can also remove the valve( a few bolts )and give it a clean. This take s around 20 mins. If this is nor successful you can purchase a valve of the internet for around £40.
