Hi all, my 2.3 120 has developed a couple of issues. The speedo has started to drop to zero and rise again while driving, also the "steering wheel" light has started to come on, accompanied by a loss of assistance. I have emptied the PAS fluid bottle and re-filled, with no effect. Any and all comments and advice welcome before I dive in!
Thanks,
Ivan

Read the fault codes before you waste hours poking at it.

I have a generic code reader for the engine management light, I assume to read any codes stored for the steering I'd need something Fiat specific? Any recomendations?

Alfaobd and multiecuscan list sagem steering support for ducato (which is weird as I think the rack / ecu is TRW) its on pin 9 so you'll need a pin 9 adapter cable or buy a kkl cable with switches to switch to pin 9 or resolder the cable to pin 9.

Wurth/Delphi/Autocom also do it.

Since you have two of them a lexia/diagbox clone would be a good investment in the long term.

Actually I think you have to read it as a Jumper/Relay theres a switch on the adapter.

OK, thanks for the info., the software that came with the Lexia clone is a bit sus, it keeps freezing so I may well invest in a multiecuscan set-up. The Ducato count is now up to 3 so it would be a valuable tool to have. I'm working all weekend so don't know when I'll get to it, but I'll report back when I do,

Assuming the interface is ok I can send you link to better firmware and software. If you plugin the lexia adapter and run the interface checker attached click version to read the version and reference to read the serial. I'll know what software you can use.

The interface checker doesn't show any info when the interface is plugged in. On the body of the interface is "9780.Z5" and there was a label in the box which said "PSA XS Evolution AC965250" Is that any help?

An update to this....... I bought a multiecuscan package, this showed canbus communication errrors. As the weather (finally) got a little drier and warmer the issues started to go away, leading me to suspect that old favourite, water ingress. I rooted around in the fuse box, below the cover and found a blue connector with quite obvious corrosion on the pins. A quick dose of contact cleaner and some WD-40 and the problems have not been seen since :) Looking at the fuse box cover, I think the water has been entering through the hinge for the door to the jump-lead gab. A wonderful piece of design

Glad to hear its sorted duff design indeed but i supppse they only want them to last the warranty period theses days. Forgot to get back to you above have to run the interface checker software I linked to find out the version.
