Hi all,

i am hoping for some advice on a starting point....
So,
My van is a '56 plate ducato swb 2.0 jtd (HDI).
Never had any problems at all until now.
Yesterday it simply cut out, no warning, no nothing.
So managed to pull it over and it wouldnt fire up at all.
Cranking over normally just wont fire.
Checked the fuel cut off (it was fine) no change.
Managed to get it towed home and called a guy out to run it through a diagnosis.

Results as follows:
P1320 Timing/rev synchronisation.
P0191 Diesel pressure control.
p0404 EGR

Can hear the fuel pump in the tank and also spraying in the engine priming for around 15 seconds(ish).

The guy also sprayed that easy start into the intake but nothing.

No local parts stores are open today so hoping for info on what part/ parts i need to order.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Kindest regards
Chris

Need to clear the errors and see what shows up after cranking and monitor the pressure during cranking.
Check the cam and crank sensors are clean and free of debris. Check cam sensor gap.

Thank you buddy.

This was also my first thought. (after reading through alot of the posts on here)
Will pick them up tomorrow and let you know how i get on.

Would these sensors make the van just cut out?
Also would this prevent firing even using the canned easy start spray stuff?
(ive never used any spay stuff before so i dont know what it is?)

Thanks again for your help

P.S these codes showed after first being cleared and then cranking.
Never asked him to check pressures etc

Ecu won't fire if it thinks the cam and crank are out of sync, if they are out of sync such as a slipped belt the pistons can hit the valves and bye bye engine. Speaking of which was the timing belt looked at? Don't go putting in new ones an oscilloscope will diagnose them in seconds.

timing belt was not looked at.
Will check that in the morning.

The problem i have is, because i cant get it to fire i cant get it to anyone with oscilloscope. (will call the mobile guy back out if needed but if it is just as quick for me to go and buy and fit the parts then i dont mind putting in the graft. I need my van for work so the sooner it is fixed the better).

Belt is extremely loose.
Not sure if/what further damage this may have caused?

P.S where is the crank position sensor located?
While looking for it i took off half of the belt plastic cover and sure enough the belt was hanging from the pulley closest to the front of the engine.
Are these interference engines?
Is it possible the engine is damaged?
I dont want to fit a new belt kit it the engine is terminal.

The easiest way I find to see if it has done the valves I find is time it up and the put a spanner on the cam pulley without the locking pin in and see if there's any free play on the cam
From experience have seen a few hdi's with belts gone and they've got away with it best way is chuck a belt on her and cross your fingers :)

yeah, ive resigned myself to finger crossing lol. (and replacement van searching)
It is getting picked up tomorrow and local garage is going to check it out.
I will post the outcome once i hear back from them.

Thank you for all your help guys.

Whip off the valve cover. The woodruff key on cam pulley and rockers are designed to break if the valve hit the pistons. With the timing belt gone theres a small chance nothing is broken, theres a good chance you've just broken the woodruff key and/or a couple of rockers. It can relatively cheap to fix once the valves aren't bent, even then its unlikely to have done major damage just head off add to the time and cost.

Before you go fixing it and putting a new belt kit on it .. its always a possibility your high pressure pump has seized up and done the belt in so make sure thats checked.

Lesson to be learned here if you have a timing fault code check the timing belt before you go cranking it and putting bloody easy start in it.

Had a galaxy in with a shredded belt last week the rac man told him his cam sensor had gone after he had pumped a load of easy start in to it !!
As soon as I saw the code for cam sensor no signal I went straight to the belt

Still waiting to have it picked up.
The garage is over busy to store it just yet.
as soon as I get a verdict I will let you know.

trust me, the anticipation is killing me lol

Woodruff key had gone.(in cam pulley? Cant remember which pulley but new one fitted)
belt snapped.
few rockers went.
valves were all fine.

Van now rebuilt, back home and ready to catch up on backlogged work.

thanks again for all your input.

(y) Such a great design wish they were all like that.
