Technical egr blanking off

Technical egr blanking off

mine is a 6 speed manunal the blue spark is a plug in chip box
its getting 3mile per gallon more mpg and lots of power so I am happy

That's an exceptional mpg improvement. Are you reading that from the car computer or have you done a fill to fill calculation? Car computers often give very false readings after mapping or chip box addons.
Any hp/torque improvement figures available with chip box addon?

I fitted the egr kit at £49 and a bluespark chip at £80 my ducato goes like stink and pulls like a train and better mpg mine is the 160 3.0l tag axle 5ton just been to Scotland most of the hills you just drop to 5th gear + I tow a car on an aframe

Looking on the 'net, I can't find where you can buy this unit for 80 pounds. Best I can see is 280 pounds. Was this a typo on your part or have you really managed to source this unit for 80 pounds?

this is the type I got eBay item number:181335838297

I will wait until I see the effect of the egr delete that I have ordered. Just deleting the egr often makes for a noticeable improvement in response and low down torque.
Thankyou for the link. I have saved it. Hopefully there will still be some left if and when I decide to buy one.
Ian.

Just returned from a 1700 km trip through Hungary and Slovakia with a new MAP sensor installed and EGR vacuum blocked.
No fault codes, no problems of any kind except the dreadful road conditions in Slovakia. The Torque-Pro app shows various EGR percentages commanded by the ECU but there is no feedback so no error codes. In fact fuel consumption is lower than it has been for years!

As promised, I contacted the seller. He advised that the plate is only required to cover the possibility of the egr valve being jammed slightly open as can happen.
On this basis, if one ensures it is properly closed - give it a tap with a hammer!! - then all that extra work is unnecessary. Once the electronic system is installed, the valve will never open again.
Installation of the shunt would be a quick job without having to dismantle hardware. I'm looking for cheaper alternatives but may have to pay this rather exorbitant price if I can't locate one.

Ian.
hi all . my next job is the egr but the more i look into it i don't see the need to use the blanking plate for when you disconnect the plug from the vacuum unit to plug into the cheater the egr will not work as removing the egr unit is & can be a bitch ( life's too short ) but i need to test if the valve is fully closed looking some cars ( see photo ) they are sold separately so if i undo the 2 screws on top would the valve probe come out any info much appreciated .cheers

I would assume it is closed. If it isn't, the worst thing that can happen is that the motor will smoke from overfuelling when under load. If it does, then you need to give the valve a clean and seat it properly. If you have a high mileage unit, it may jam a little open with carbon buildup. If reasonably new, highly unlikely.
Play the odds and try it first. I have bought an emulator but haven't fitted it yet. I intend to try it first as my engine is not smoking currently.

hi oigle. thanks for that but I need to know for sure that the valve is closed otherwise I will fit the blanking plate my question is if I undo the 2 screws on the vacuum on top of the egr valve will I be able to check it closes off the exhaust in which case that will save me a lot of work

I don't know - have never had mine off. Why do you need to know initially? The fitting of the emulator looks like a 10 minute job without the blanking plate. Try it first and then, if it smokes under load, go to the trouble of inserting the blanking plate - that is a much bigger job. You would have to remove the egr completely to clean it and ensure it is seated, if you want to go down that track. Is your unit high mileage?

hi. first I need to make sure it's closed ( seated ) so I can just fit the cheater .
second I know fitting the cheater is a 10min job thanks to techno 100
thirdly I don't want to clean it just stop the crap recirculating mileage 22'500. it's hard sometimes trying to ask questions on forums about problems as they tend to come out wrong & get misinterpreted not the same as face to face but having said that this IS a good forum thanks

These "tuning" boxes mess with the fuel rail pressure. As the fuel flow is calculated by the engine ECU from the injector flow rate at a known pressure and the time the injector is open, anything unknown in the control loop between the ECU and fuel pressure will cause incorrect fuel flow calculation (this is how the boxes work). As the trip computer uses the fuel flow signal from the engine ECU the trip computer MPG will be wrong.

As I said, I would do it the other way around but - we are all different

All I meant was that to ensure seating, you would have to clean it to get rid of any carbon around the valve seat. At 22000, I would doubt that you would have a problem.
Yes, removing it from the system at an early mileage will keep the inlet manifold nice and clean.

That's how these guys get to quote better mileage....it is a rarity to improve mileage with a tuning box.

Mine is fine after having done a first road test with EGR blanked and Tafmet device installed. I at best hoped for no noticeable difference but it is certainly better than that.
hi now you have been to france & back my question is when blocking off the EGR & stopping the exhaust fumes ( 700 fahrenheit ) entering the cooler does it take longer to warm up & does it run cooler now . cheers

Finally got around to fitting my tafnet device only to find it does not fit the latest 3 litre diesel in the 180 series Ducato - 2013 production.
The egr itself is a 5 pin affair and has no vacuum operation. It is the latest iteration, fully electronic egr.
I have requested that tafnet accept it back for return and asked if he has any other device that will operate with the latest egr setup.
If he hasn't, the only other alternative is to get it mapped out which can be a little expensive.
