I have acquired a source for low Saps 5w 40 fully synthetic engine oil,
what are the thought for using this in my 2002 X244 2.8JDT

Come on Olympus surely a level 10 Scania tech with 30 years experience you of all people should know what oil to put in your vehicle?

Many threads I have come across suggest that 5W-40 is a bit on the thin side and can provoke oil leaks, and that 10W-40 is a better bet, unless you intend going up into the Artic Circle!!

I do not believe there is an advantage using 5w40 over 5w30 this oil is a fuel efficient oil with all the additives to protect the engine at least as far as Amsoil is concerned.

synthetics operate better in colder weather than conventional oil but thats a whole nother can of worms to open lol.

Normal recommendation for these engines is a 5W-30. Moving to a 10W will reduce oil flow from cold, and can cause problems with the hydraulic lifters. The 'hot' 40 spec won't be so much of an issue. I suspect also the 10-40 is a semi-synthetic - most oils of this grade are - whereas the 5 - 40 normally used is a probably fully synthetic.
