Hi
i have recently bought a fiat ducato 1.9 td bessacarr camper van on a w reg. It has done 58,000 miles. Before driving i have had a new cam belt, oil and air filter and new radiator as old one rusty. I recently drove down to cornwall (4.5 hours) lovely. No problem at all. Parked up for 2 days on camp site. On return home, half hour into my journey, i noticed a lack of power as soon as i got onto the dual carriageway. Will not go over 60mph. No problem up to that speed. I am at a loss as to why suddenly this has happened when it drove lovely 2 days prior. Ended up getting recovery as i didnt want to damage the engine not knowing what was wrong. At 60 i can put my foot flat to the floor and nothing. No black smoke coming out and no warning lights on dash. Engine appears to be revving fine. Any help appreciated.

Might just need the throttle cable adjusted, cam belt job disturbs a lot of things, check intake hoses haven't popped off.

Thanks for the reply. The intake hoses are still intact. Ill get the mechanic to check the throttle cable tomorrow.

Theres always a possibility its skipped a tooth or pump pulley has slipped etc so timing it out but hopefully a simpler explanation. Are you sure it did more than 60 on the way down, the 1.9td is notoriously underpowered for a heavy motorhome wouldn't expect it to go over 60 on an incline.

To be honest, on the way to cornwall - m4, m5 and a38 its quite flat and i was extremely surprised how fast the van went. I was easily doing 70 plus with no problem at all. Obviously once into cornwall i was mainly in third and fourth round the bends and inclines etc.
On the way home it was a different kettle of fish barely being able to speed up at all. I pulled onto the services as the van started slightly juddering when the foot was on the accelerator. As soon as it was released it stopped. The garage are at a bit of a loss as to what is wrong at the moment. I think they were thinking they may change the fuel injector pump tomorrow. I can see this may be an expensive process of elimination:(

Ah you didn't say it was juddering and stopped, I assume they've checked the timing hasn't slipped, changed the fuel filter and inspected the tank, tank uptake, checked immobiliser/stop solenoid. You don't replace an injector pump on a whim.

It didn't actually break down but was juddering so I pulled off the motorway. My husband drove it tonight to see what it was doing. He said it feels like it's definately not getting enough fuel. I think the mechanic may drive it tomorrow and go from there. I hate it when you don't know what's wrong. Thanks for you reply.

Can anyone advise me whether my fiat ducato year 2000 on a w reg has a plug in fault reader. I cannot find one. If it has, where is it? Many thanks

Bosch as 3.1 even if it did you don't think you'll fond a tool to read it .

Hi
The end result is sludge in the diesel fuel tank. What I would like to know is when we drop the tank to empty out-is there a filter or anything inside the tank that I need to replace? Thanks Jo
