Pioneer AVIC-950 need speed pulse from vehicle system.
This in addition to the GPS signals to calculate map position.
Input rear side pink wire.

Any of you guys got any clue where to connect on a Ducato 2013?

:)

Kind of funny; Fiat Ducato; one of europe´s most used cargo and RV (moblie home) chassis…
And nobody knows anything about speed pulse ?

I have tried local dealer; «Know nothing» or wont tell me…
I have tried former local dealer; « Ask the new dealer»… (Probably no friends)
I have tried national dealer; «Please try Fiat online»……

I have tried Fiat international web page; «ciao» or what ever i s all I get;
You may download if you pay… And I payed for documents;
As soon as I payed my €6, the web page switch to italian just to make me confused and more pissed

I have tried local Pioneer dealer; «Dont know»……
I have tried contact national Pioneer dealer.. do not answer at all

I have tried local mobile home dealer.. «dont know»

I have tried Google…

Did spend aprox €3500 for a preinstalled unit in my 2014 Ducato
Only thing I got is a nfg (no fu.. good) GPS and a high blood preassure!!!:bang:

My status is that I dont care..
What I did? Easy! I bought a new TomTom..

My advice?
Stay clear this overpriced units…
Better and cheaper units from TomTom
Sorry if I pissed anyone.. I am pissed myself!

See you all navigating the roads by TomTom :)

No navigation system really needs speed pulses.
This is only because in tunnels and between highrise buildings the satellite signals are not available, but the device pretends it can still receive them, so it uses the last speed and direction information to calculate its position.
With speed pulses, the calculation is more reliable, that's all.

My first navigator was a Navman device that reported loss of signal under every bridge....

Thanks for input.
How ever; the AVIC series from Pioneer must have speed pulse.
If no speed pulse the calculations give errors that could position your car in "wrong country».
And thats no joke; According to my AVIC950 my position is in norther Denmark… And I am actually in western Sweden (Gotenburg).

Often it looks good when you start up; after a tunnel or narrow valley the GPS position is lost. Could be ok again after 1-2 minutes; or you need to wait an hour or so.
At this time I am not impressed at all.
The AVIC will be only for bragging purposes; not for navigation.
Have bought my TomTom.

There are no 'speed pulses' these vans like all modern cars use digital networks to communicate between modules then if any one module needs a piece of information it can pick it off the network.

What you would need to do is look for a CanBus module which converts the vans digital code into an analogue pulse, they do exists but can be costly

Most cars don't even have speed sensors any more they just pick wheel speed information off the abs module. Pioneer should have been able to help you with this or at least advise you what you needed.

Speed pulse should be available from radio ISO connectors on either pin1 or pin5 this is true on a 2002 2.8jtd model as I fitted cruise control and it needs the pulse to limit the speed.
Can't be sure about later ones though.

Thanks for inputs.
I will look into your info (both).

The pink wire labeled "speed pulse" need a connection asap:bang:.

Does the original unit increase the volume with vehicle speed? It probably does/did, so it has received a speed pulse from the vehicle.

If the vehicle is CanBus, you will need an adaptor, like this, http://www.connects2.co.uk/UniversalProductInformation.aspx?id=CAN-01.3. This interprets the CanBus signals and transmits them to the head unit as analogue signals. Been working well in my Panda for over 4 years, in a 500 for a year prior to that and in a Corsa for a couple of years before that. The vehicle power plug has eight positions, but only uses 4, two being quite small wires. These are the CanBus signal wires. The adaptor connects to them and then into your head unit. Easier once you see it, but you have to lose this unit behind the head unit, hopefully there's enough space.

If your vehicle is not CanBus, it should have more wires to the power plug, including the speed pulse.

I have an Avic F130, would be lost with out it! sorry. Fitted it myself with a Pioneer AVH 8400BT into a 2013 X250 based Motorhome, not sure if I had to a Canbus adapter cable, but if I did I had no problem getting it or installing with it, but that was all, no mention of pulse NAV.

There is no question about it; Pioneer Avic 950 (my model is a 950 DAB) need a "speed pulse" signal from the vehicle to give the most accurate position possible. How ever; the unit will give a fairly good position only based on the data received via GPS antenna from satellites.

In my case, the unit was giving all kind of funny positions. :bang:

Turns out that the source to my problems was interference from other devices in my car. My GPS antenna is located on the dash close to the window. I have two dash cams mounted onto the window just above the GPS antenna. The dash cams seems to generate more RF than the GPS antenna can handle. The result is that the satellite signals are «killed" by my dash cams. ;)

My dash cams position is changed to the far left side and the GPS antenna in the center of dash. The AVIC 950 GPS now seems to be working good. :)

Even so; I want my speed pulse to have the perfect position at all time (inside tunnels etc.) Still searching for info.

I know that this is an old thread but thought that I might as well add my 10p worth for what its worth. I have an 2012 Ducato to which I have fitted a Pioneer AVIC-F77DAB especially as, like others on this thread I searched all over to find where the speed pulse could be obtained. The AVIC F-77 has a speed pulse input. The manual states that, apart from positioning by GPS, it also navigates using "dead reckoning (DR)" using the built-in sensors in the system to calculate your position by detecting driving distance from the speed pulse along with turning direction using a gyro sensor and inclination of the road with a G sensor. Using these inputs it corrects discrepancies in the DR calculated position caused by hills and bends. It states that the DR system will be more accurate using the speed pulse. On my 2012 Ducato the speed pulse can be accessed off Pin 10 of the Body computer in the drivers footwell (where it is fed from the ABS module). For those with a full canbus, the installation manual shows a conversion cable (sold separately - presumably by Pioneer). Whilst some may well be content with just using the GPS signal inputs, those with the capability offered on some Satnav devices will probably want to connect it.

I should have clarified that it is Pin 10 of the AV 52 pin connector. For clarity I have produced a guide with drawings/info taken from the Ducato Training Manual which is attached as a pdf.

Well guys I have installed an Andriod unit that blows the Pioneer out of the water! Full spec: DAB, Nav, ect.........all for £250 ?
All works well and if you don’t like the inbuilt satnav software you can download Here maps for free with free upgrades. WHAT A SYSTEM!!
I presently have a couple of small issues.......the flashing dash milage being one of them. Help with this would be appreciated.
Portland Bill. Pls can you resend the above link as I couldn't get it to work?

Thanks DeeCee44, your link to the diagram seems to answer my question. (About to change a pioneer DVD head unit for a AVIC-F88DAB I'll let you know how I get on...

I've just pulled my 2016 2.3 Carthago in bits to get to this pin #10 ...
The plug shown by the diagram in the fuseboard by drivers side has 60 pins on mine, not 52 as displyed in that diagram.
Am I missing something here or is it that the 2016 fuseboard is different from the slightly earlier 2013 model you refer to? Do they change things That often?
Gutted! :-/

Sorry to hear that. Mine is a 2102 Ducato 100 MultiJet so its quite possible that the Body Computer varies. I guess your next bet is to find the connector pin list (as shown in my pdf) but for your body computer panel and find the pin for the "VSO signal from NFR" (NFR = the braking node on CanBus).

Having just checked the Fiat Training Manual the Fuse Box and Relay panel is VERY similar to the Body Computer in its layout of fuses, connectors etc. It also resides under the dashboard. You need to make sure you have the right one.

Hi Woodpecker

Did you ever find out which pin is the speed pulse because I've got the same problem?

I have attached a photo of the Speed Pulse Nav. connection.:D
