My 2011 Ducato X250 has the following problem. When the ignition is turned on the fuel gauge reads ok. When the engine starts the fuel gauge drops to empty and the fuel warningAnyideas? light flashes.

It is the sudden rise of the supply voltage that does this. There is a voltage regulator that supplies approx. 9 VDC to the fuel gauge, it has a built in protection against overvoltage. Either your alternator delivers more than 14.5 V or the regulator has gone bad.

Unfortunately I have no idea where the device is located, it may even be part of the fuel gauge.

Thank you for your reply, I think you couldbe right. I will investigate!

I had the same problem. It turned out that a mouse is gnawing one cable close to the probe. :D

It could be just a faulty binnacle (complete speedo/rev counter assy) from 2011 on (euro 5) they have had faulty earth problems internal to the unit, normally resulting in dull glowing warning lights, but more than worth asking the question at dealers, I've had mine changed just last month

Problem with electrics and multiplex wiring is it's not just a case of checking a circuit/voltage like older vehicles
It all runs through the brain, my guess is binnacle, can't be a broken wire as it works on ign,

hi,
tried a new instrument binicle with no joy, could it be software or does the fuel sender get its lower voltage from someware else?

Hi,

sorry to start an old thread but i have exactly same issue, i have already tried new intrument cluster no sender level, same result, i start doubt about engine ecu, since i can read the the fuel level on live data on engine.

have you ever solve this problem ?

Thanks
