General Leaky brown stuff in the passenger footwell

General Leaky brown stuff in the passenger footwell

if access to just SEE it is fair,
worth wiping it over and see where the water is dripping / pooling,
fairly common for the union ( seals) to leak ..rather than the Alloy Matrix itself,

swinging the joint out to add sealant / replace o-rings is easier.. ,
good luck..!!, Charlie

The original pic looks like a big leak. Water in the scuttle would look like this, but would not drain the coolant.
My guess is matrix leak has drained the coolant, hopefully not done any engine damage. May need new matrix, or just seals.

Stick a finger into the leaked fluid. Sniff it. Does it smell of dead leaves and mud, etc., or a slightly sweet sickly smell? Sickly stuff is coolant. Rusty smell is coolant without much actual coolant left in it. Now rub your fingers together. Muddy water will be just wet. Coolant will feel slightly sticky, then make your fingers feel dry after you've wiped the fluid off.

Tasting it is best left to the professionals. (Been there, done that. Fluid diagnosis procedure: smell, feel, taste.)

it will smell of "rusty water"

as that's what it appears to be (n)

very little anti-freeze left looking at the pics,

as Dave Said, water will be good to preserve the engine ( and Flush the crud out) until a proper seal is restored, (y)

that's a risky long way to go with a leak, you could end up with blown head gasket or worse.

if you can get to the hoses easy then you can bypass matrix with a bit of copper pipe and 2 hose clips
That's still going to be on the inside though isn't it?

Well we'll see when I can get in there :)

The heater hoses come from the engine cooling system and (usually) access is (fractionally) easier that side of the bulkhead. Though this will orobably mean crawling around underneath:(

YES - access MAY be better from rear of engine..,

what age it THIS ducato..??

possible to reduce the leakrate if you keep the temp set on COLD:idea:

as suggested .. a really long journey could mean the engine being starved of efficient cooling,

Assuming I can't sort it myself, I think I'll just keep topping it up until I can get it back up to Stu's - as his garage charges half the hourly rate as London ones!
Ah, last place I used was in Halifax - I will check my place here that I use [Motorvation] but there is also another recommended place just around the corner [called Brooklands] :)
