I have a 2012 Ducato 2287cc, Hymer motorhome, 23000 untroubled miles until now! . After it has been driven for about 60 miles or so, and then we stop for coffee or diesel, when we try to drive again we get the sign “INSUFFICIENT ENGINE OIL PRESSURE – STOP ENGINE”. If we drive anyway, the sign goes away after a few seconds, and stays out until we stop again, and then it comes back on for a few seconds.

In addition to that, sometimes the engine oil warning light (a red light) will come on straight after the “insufficient engine oil pressure – stop engine” sign has come on, and the red light doesn’t go out, but if we stop for an hour or so and then start the engine, the red light will have gone out, the engine acts properly until we’ve done 60 miles or so, and then we start the problem again!

I took it to a garage where they reset the computer (t was serviced in March 2014 and that hadn't been done), There was a very small leak in the engine oil pressure switch – they have replaced that with a new one, but still the words came on. They have checked the consistency of the engine oil, and confirm it is the correct oil, and the computer shows the oil is at the correct pressure both when driving and when just ticking over.

Yesterday I drove the motorhome for 100 miles without any warnings, but the average mpg has gone from around 27mpg to 25mpg, and there appears to be a loss of pulling power on the hills, around 10%. Does anyone have any suggestions - the garage I was using were very helpful but gave up on it.

I had the same problem with my Ducato 2.3 multi jet 2014 , I also had the "Insufficent Oil Pressure " light come on ..then went off so I got home 3 mins later and checked oil and put in 1litre and a few hours later it wouldn't start ..so RAC took the van to the Dealership and they confirmed the engine has seized and the warranty will not cover it because I drove it with the warning light on

had a similar problem with mine fitted a murphy master gauge to it pressure was fine found the wire going to pressure switch was broken inside the wire and only connecting when it felt like it soldered in a new wire no problems since Cheers adam
