Hi all,
I'm reading on here about X250 ....thought that was in a Gerry Anderson TV show.
Anyway, does anyone out there have a definitive list on all the model variants, what X250 or any of the other numbers actually refer..
For example I have a Ducato 2003 (which I believe is the facelift model) Motorhome with the 2.8JTD engine
No doubt this question has been asked before, I have done a search but cannot locate,
Your assistance would be much appreciated

From 1995 onwards, the X230 Ducato and Boxer models were launched, remaining in production until the facelifted X244 models replaced them from late 2002 onward. The X250 was introduced in 2006.
You can get more info from a search of those X numbers.

This is my understanding of the evolution of diesel Ducatos:

First generation Fiat Ducato ran from 1981 to 1993.
In diesel format it was mainly 2.5 (non-turbo), or 2.5 TD.

Second generation Ducato: two sub-types; pre and post facelift:

Type X230 (pre-facelift), was made from 1994 to 2002.
The gearbox was modified at about (but not exactly) the same time as the model facelift came in....so there are just a few post-facelift examples with the early gearbox, and possibly a few pre-facelift models with the later gearbox.

On the X230 models reverse gear selection is to the right and down, by 4th gear.

The second generation post-facelift X244 models ran from 2002 to 2006.....reverse gear is left and up, by 1st.

Second generation Ducato 2.8 diesel engine types:
The earlier (first) version of the 2.8 litre diesel engine was called “idtd” (Injection Direct Turbo Diesel) and also “TDI” ( Turbo Direct Injection).
It had a non-common-rail, mechanically driven fuel injection system.
It was produced from 1994 to 1999. There is no “S” at the end of the engine type code for this 2.8 litre idtd/TDI engine: 8140.43

It was superceded by the “JTD” (uni-Jet Turbo Diesel) engine, which has an electronically controlled ( ECU) common rail fuel injection. Engine type code has an “S” added: 8140.43S.
The 2.8 litre JTD engine was fitted from 1999 to 2006.

Third generation Ducato, type X250, ran from 2006 to present.
Fitted with 6 speed gearbox (6th gear is actually an extra ratio between old 4th and 5th)

Ours is a year 2001 X230 2.8 JTD: the actual model in Fiat database is “232”
Fitted with the 1999-to-2003, Euro 3 compliant, 2.8JTD SOHC “SOFIM” common rail direct injection engine made by IVECO.
Engine type code is 8140.43S
Engine power is 128PS, 127bhp, 94KW, at 3,600 rpm.

The Sofim - Società Franco Italiana Motori was originally joint diesel engine enterprise of Fiat, Saviem (Renault) and Alfa Romeo established in September 1974 and was bought by Iveco in 1981.] The manufacturing plant is located in Foggia in southern Italy and is nowadays Fiat Powertrain Technologies largest engine plant covering an area of approximately 540,000 square metres (5,800,000 sq ft).

So being very new here, the Ducato Maxi I have just purchased is a 2007 one with 120 Multijet on it so does that mean its a X250 and I should try and manual for this to understand the dash layout and for servicing

Thanks

Hi guys.
I would like to recap a bit all the Ducato models:
  • (1981-1989) 280 model
  • (1989-1994) 290 model
  • (1994-2002) 230 model
  • (2002-2006) 244 model
  • (2006-2014) 250 model
  • (2014-2018) ??

What does the X stand for? What is the difference between 230 and X230?

Are there any other Ducato campervan models?

Thanks

Really it's mk1, mk1 facelift, mk2, mk2 facelift, mk3, mk3 facelift, mk3 facelift+botox

Fiat divides the mk3 into 2J 2006-2014, 4X 2011-2014, 4y 2014-

Wow. So I was completely wrong? Can you be more specific?

You're not wrong, at nuts an bolts level theres 3 models with changes to cosmetics, trim, emissions, engine availability etc. making up the other 'models'.

Good thread this as I have learnt something interesting. My Motorhome is a Swift Kontiki 2002 facelift model, one with the grill.
Right I find Gearbox reverse is Left and up beside First gear.
Then there's the, is it a X244, well engine room label quotes ZFA244000*etc so confirms that. So vehicle is late 2002--2006.
Motor is it 8140.43S. Engine room label yet again confirms it.
Don't know what Versione 1.49 means thou.
