Tuning 1.9td engine

Sorry dont know yet how this works. So looks like I'm replying to my own thread. I will with your permission pose the question here. It revoles around the old issue of gaining mor power from the 1.9td engine. I found on the Internet a company that does a modified component for the fuel pump. They refer to it as a DT piston. the company is swiss I believe. Called motoroptimerring.se. they claim that the component should increase power by 15% and a fuel saving of 5 to 10%. As reported by their customers. I was wondering if anyone had heard of this? Thanks in advance for any replys.

hi, how old is your van? if you check other threads i think you will find that the 1.9td is seen as underpowered and nobody seems to have been able to fix the problem. i own a 1996 1.9td and i agree it suffers on hills and in the wind. goes like heck with the wind behind. recently i,ve heard that adding 2 stroke oil to the deisel helps with fuel consumption and noise. has anyone else heard of this?

Hi clifford. Thanks for your reply. Mine is a 1997 autoroller. I like the room and layout in the van. But as you say. It is really underpowered. I've had a word with the fitters at work (ainscough crane hire) and they have seen something similar to the dt piston. In fact one of them told me he had done the same sort of thing with landrovers. He says it did give an increase in pulling power and didn't notice much difference in fuel economy either way. But he did say that initial acceleration resulted in black smoke. Soon cleared though. He put it this way. You can't get the poke without the smoke. Just wish I'd known more before I bought the van. Or that there was an easy engine swap.

hi again, sorry there's not much you can do about the performance of your van. i have owned mine for 7 years. you get used to it. mine has no power steering, you soon learn to adapt your driving style to accommodate the shortfalls. wait till you try finding a workshop manual for it. if they exist they're as rare as hens teeth. i'm still looking.please don't let it spoil the enjoyment you get from your van, just allow more journey time chillax and enjoy the view.

Ye. Must admit I do enjoy the van. Going to be carrying an extra 2 people this year. Was just looking for that little bit more to compensate. May give it a go with the modified part. Get a 60 day no questions asked quarentee. Good service and timing belt first though. If I don't get that improvement. Should be able to get money back. Will let you know how I get on. Cheers

You can do the same thing yourself with a bench grinder for free remember to polish it so it after so doesn't wear the pin though, I wouldn't go as far as these though as egt will be high. Guide for tuning at the bottom.:

Thanks for that moonrater. Not sure I would have the nerve to actually try this. But it's an interesting idea. I've forwarded this to my friend. He is a much better mechanic than me. Cheers
