Greetings – we seek the help and advice of the forum.

We have a 2002 Hymer B644G motorhome on a Fiat Ducato (automatic), built on a maxi chassis base. The motorhome has nose (front) down appearance in common with others of the model type.

Even on a flat pitch we need to put levelling blocks under the front wheels to get the motorhome on an even keel. Without the blocks the fridge can be a bit temperamental. If we have to pitch on a downward slope then even with the blocks the front end is lower than the rear.

I’ve heard that it is possible to get some fitments to the front suspension/coils to raise the front profile of the van.

Does anyone have any experience of these and can advise of a name/make/cost?

I used a Graysons coil spring assister. Lifted my front right by 2 inches and cost approx 30 euros from ebay. I can recommend it. A little fiddly to fit but with plenty of washing up liquid it slides into the coil easier.

I've been doing some more research and have also had some useful replies on the motorhomefacts.com forum.

I've decided to replace the front coils (they are 11 years old) with new uprated ones from Goldschmitt who supply Hymer and do an uprated spring specifically for our Ducato (Typ 244) based vehicle.

A belated update should anyone else have the same problem as us.

I bought the uprated springs direct from Goldschmitt in Germany who were very helpful on the phone and in correspondence by e mail.
We had the springs fitted at our local motorhome dealers (Dick Lane Motorhomes, Bradford).

What a difference! The van now sits level. The springs give a harder ride but we’ve now got used to this. Also, when going over potholes the suspension no longer bottoms out.

All in all a vast improvement – wish we had done this years ago.

I've got a Murvi Morello built on a similar van - 2005 Ducato 15. Front looks a bit down but only done 40k so springs/shocks should be OK. Emailed Graysons who said they do not do suitable assisters. Could you tell me which ones you used please? Thanks.

I doubt you need expensive springs what's your front axle weight. Simply fitting the 1800kg 2.8 turbo spring might be sufficient. Could also be that its up in the back because they fit the wrong bumpstops/spring assisters there are two different sizes or you have air suspension jacked up.

Front axle with full tank of fuel weighs 1580kg so below 1750 limit.
