hi folks,
a question for the technically minded: would a gearbox from a 2.0 jtd or 2.5 jtd work on a 2.8jtd? if they physically fitted would the be a big difference in gearing? also does anyone know if there would be a difference in say a 2.0 petrol gearbox and a 2.0 diesel gearbox? - any input is welcomed.
regards.

the 2.8d or the 2.8td gearbox are the same, although there are 7 different type of gearbox in each cc, the 1.9, 2.5, 2.8 etc,

the jtd clutch type is different as well one is pull type (Jtd) and one is push type (IDTD), petrol and diesel are different gearing as well, so you cant use a p[etrol on a diesel

also to take into account is the bell housing a 2.3 is slightly fifferent with the lower bolt holes in the wrong place

if you wanted a complete engine gearbox with all anchillaries I have a 2.5td which I will be advertising on here shortly, its a hdi version pump with fly by wire same as your van in theory, the engine gearbox etc I have is out of a 1999 fiat marea but iy will fit your ducato, I bought it to put into mine but as I have a 1990 I couldn't use this because I would have to convert everything even down to the wiring ecu transponder and then having everything programming as you already have hdi its plug and play

if your gearbox is broken, then I would just suggest either looking for another matching gearbox, or if yours is petrol upgrade to a diesel as they are far superior to petrol, mine is 128bhp engine which is very good in the 3 tonne motorhomes

2.3jtd, 2.8jtd, 2.8td from 2001-2006 have the same bellhousing, casing, input shaft and gears. Except there is a different countershaft for the lighter vehicles and the 1.8 ton van. Petrol will be all wrong, probably won't fit, gearing will be all wrong and not designed for diesel torque.

Pre facelift boxes may have cable clutch or hydraulic clutch.

You can compare the parts yourself:

Thanks for your replies, I have a 2.8 jtd and 3rd gear has gone - I'm not sure if it's a push or pull though! It looks the same type as this one (picture attached)

Hi,and thank you, would I be able to find it on the engine as I'm not convinced that the engine is original and may not match the V5?

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me. How do I tell if my 2.3jtd fiat ducato. Has the pull and push clutch. Or what other type do they have.

Can anybody explain what eper is? Can I buy parts straight from the site or is it dealer site?
