I've recently had to change a faulty flat battery with a new replacement. Sounds simple enough, the change over went fine and I was back on the road in no time. However on looking down at my gauges since the change over my Speedo and Tacho are out. I don't mean they're not working, in fact they seem to be working fine except that they no longer start at zero and as a result give a false reading. The speedo is showing a speed of about 35 when I'm doing more like fifty and the tacho about 400/500 RPMs at a gear change that is probably more like 2400 RPMs. The needles start way below zero pointing to the floor, is there a way to reset them?

From memory, they are both driven from the ECU, so it looks like it needs a reset. Disconnect the + battery lead for a few hours or overnight and see if that does it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm off to work this morning but when I get home the van won't need to be operational till the following day. I'll disconnect the + as suggested and let you know.

Disconnected the battery as described overnight and reconnected today. Unfortunately I'm still having the same problem. Any other ideas?

I think you should get a garage or ECU specialist to reset and calibrate your ECU. Looks like it's had a spike when the battery was changed and that's thrown it off.

I just had another thought. Take off the battery + terminal and check all the fuses are clean and tight on there. Also look for any multiway connectors you might have disturbed and reseat them.

First thing to try is simply unplugging the clustwr and reattachng lots of people found tgay fixed tgeir phantom temperature gauge. Multiecu scan can do a proxy alignment on some vehicles to resync the cluster and body computer with the ecu not sure if ducato is supported.

Hi
Our 2003 2.8JTD had to have the whole dash removed to replace the A/C evaporator under warranty & when it was returned to us the the temp gauge needle was further up the dial when switched off & went past its "normal" dead centre when warmed up.
I mentioned it to the technician at the time & he said bring it back & I will calibrate the gauges again so it must be possible to reset them. This was never done because when we tried to reset the clock/trip meter etc the numbers disappeared off the screen so as as result they then replaced the complete intrument cluster.
Cheers

Ok, so things are back to normal. I had tried a number of ideas including ones mentioned here within this thread. In the end I decided that it would be best to take it in to a Fiat service agent. The result of their investigation was as follows - They found that the needles were loose on the drive motors, they removed the gauges and re-tensioned before refitting and checking calibration. No parts were required and as a result it only cost an hours labour, $137.50 inc GST. A lot less than if I'd been stung over the long w/end double demerit period. Hope that this thread can assist someone else in the future. Thank you to all who commented.
