I have a 2004 Ducato 2.8JTD and have to replace the front shock absorbers.
How do I get to the top nut.

22mm deep socket. Best to put on your spring compressors and drop out the whole assembly though.

Hi
It is not something to take on if you don't know what you are doing.
The shock/strut assembly should be removed from the vehicle in one piece first, which involves removing the 4 lower bolts holding the strut to the stub axle,
Note:the weight of the brake discs, calipers & stub axle etc should be supported with a stand so that it is not hanging on the rubber brake hoses or wiring.
The strut is then removed by removing the three? strut tower retaining nuts for the top strut bearing assembly. These are accessed from behind the lower dash assembly which requires the lower part on both sides to be removed to gain access to the retaining nuts.
Then once the strut is out & using a spring compressor to compress the spring (This can also be done before removal although I find it easier when removed)(WARNING - Do not remove the SHAFT NUT unless the spring has been compressed first to take up the tension) - then the top nut can be removed as this is what stops the whole thing from flying apart   - possibly causing injury.
Cheers
P.S. where did you source the replacement shocks from, what brand?

Hi Free Spirit,
Thanks for that, I am in Queensland as well. The replacement shocks are Sachs brand from a U.K. supplier. I have had to remove the whole dash at one stage to replace the heater core. do you know if this is the case to get to the top nuts/bolts or just a part of the dash.
