Has anyone managed to source such a kit for the above vehicle. The problem with some of the better known /cheaper websites is that their vehicle reg drop down facility is not always accurate. So for example with my vehicle registration it shows that my engine is a 2.8jtd (Power) with 146 HP whereas mine is actually a 2.8jtd with 128hp .
AACARPARTSUK site on Ebay lists a Gates timing belt kit /Water pump package for £84 which meets all the relevant engine data for my vehicle. However when I phoned up Uniparts/ Partco / TMS/ MisterAuto etc they said that no such Gates package existed for my vehicle.
At £88 - it is a snip as long as it is the appropriate parts . Would like to hear from anyone who has bought this package before for this vehicle? (Swift Kontiki 610 - based on a Fiat Ducato 15 SWB with 2.8jtd engine

Gates don't do a kit with water pump, the water pump isn't on the timing belt so no reason to change it at the same time really. Also had a look at that ebay shop and theres no kit including water pump listed for the 2.8 there is one listed for the 2.0. Also they are listing the timing kit for the 2.8idtd as compatible with the jtd which it isn't so I wouldn't trust their listings.

Hello again and thanks for your very helpful replies. You are right - the Gates kit from the continental link you gave me really undercuts anything in the UK . I will certainly use them.

Re the water pump - to be frank I am prepared to spend a few bob replacing parts that probably don't need changing( simply because I haven't serviced it for the past 3 years ago as it hasn't been used ). I did 35k in the first 4 years and then 2k in the last 3 years . Now I am getting ready to go to Turkey with it so I want to be reassured and I have just worked on the basis that if I am changing the belt kit then the water pump is in the same working area.
I have phoned up Fiat and believe it or not they couldn't give me the BHP of my vehicle - they are now contacting Fiat in Italy. Altho my m/h was first reg late 2005 it actually left the Italian plant in 2002 - just at the time of the change over. I have given Fiat all the relevant chassis and engine number data but from my research I am now pretty sure that my engine is a 128 BHP rather than the 146 bhp that is quoted to me on parts site drop down links.

I don't think I will go for the Mahle but will go for near comparable German makes eg Mann -Hummel or even Bosch.

Again , I thank you sincerely for your very helpful replies

Alan

I replaced the timing belt kit 4 years ago and it has done less than 2k miles since then - so you may think that I am being a bit stupid or gung ho . However I am really paranoid about timing belt disasters on a diesel engine so I am prepared to replace it early.
