DPF Issues

I have got the car booked into fiat so they should find out what's wrong with it they said they can inject the dpf filter with acid and is 99% successful for £400 or an new one by fiat is £1600 but I have seen new ones not made by fiat on the Internet for £200 don't know if there any good thou

Was speaking to our local postman the other day and they have had all their very old vans replaced by a fleet of Peugeot and Fiat Doblo vans. Of course, nobody considered the DPF issue and these vans (in our rural area) are doing the worst possible regime: drive 100 meters in first gear, sit and idle for 30 seconds, drive another 100 metres etc.

The results have been predictable: apparently the record is a blocked DPF with under 300 miles on the clock from new.

He's on his 3rd. van in as many months and has been given a Doblo to try after 2 Peugeot failures. Anyway, the reason I mention it is because he says that with the Fiat the handbook tells you how to force a DPF regeneration by using a special start procedure. Something like starting the engine while fully depressing clutch and accelerator and it will go into regen. mode. It says to open bonnet and all doors, not let anyone in the vehicle and to stand well back for 25 minutes!

This is a new one on me. As far as I'm aware the regen can only be forced using software and a computer with MES installed.

The above doesn't sounds plausible as the engine has to be at the correct temp etc.

However if using it how you describe, driving and then idling etc, it should regen providing they don't keep turning them off (which it doesn't look like from what you describe).
