Hi all,

Management light has come on on my 2007 Ducato X250 3.0 litre,

Fault codes are P0638 throttle valve short to earth, error static (been in over 40 times, I just bought camper 3 months ago and first time it has happened with me). £241.41 plus fitting

Other code is P0401 EGR valve. £220.87 plus fitting.

Looking for advise please,

What is the throttle valve and where is it and can the egr valve be easily removed and cleaned.

Thanks' in advance for any advise.

Steve

Short to earth static is going to be easy to find anyway. The changed the loom at some stage so maybe a know problem with it weraring and shorting somewhere. Throttle valve is number 7

There are two different egr valves depending on hp.

Hi,
I phoned my local Fiat dealer and they say there are no outstanding recalls on my vehicle and there is no record of a wiring replacement. Do you know how I can pursue this further.

Cheers
Steve

And the conclusion to his thread was?
Fiat considers this to be normal.
You can easily block the vacuum line to the EGR valve, it is an engine part you don't really need.

The throttle valve is a different matter. You also do not really need it, but It may be stuck in a partly closed position, reducing engine performance and increasing fuel consumption so it has to be removed, cleaned or replaced if it doesn't respond to ECU commands.

It seems delivery vans have far less problems with the EGR because they are in daily use and driven hard on the motorways, so the valves are kept clean. Nearly all EGR issues I found on German forums concern camper vans.

This small metal piece I put in the EGR vacuum line. Looks like it belongs there, but it is solid....

Hi all, Sorry I have not replied sooner to your tips, I have been working away a lot and have not been near my van for months, delay was not due to be discourteous.

I have tried the solid metal in the vacuum pipe for the EGR valve and codes still present are P0401/P0403/P0638, I think the next step is to remove the EGR valve and clean it out.

Thanks again for your replies.

Steve

Take a look at the thread entitled Throttle valve part numbers? I've put some info on there might help.
