tried before but no replies so am trying again, I have a Fiat Ducato Maxi MWB 2.8TD 2000 model and am after some information on the glow plug and relay sequence, in warm weather there is no issue, turn key light comes on for 1-2 seconds and starts no problem, in colder conditions the light does not come on and I can here the relay clicking loudly? the van still turns over and starts but am just wondering what this could be? cant be too serious as it all works fine in normal temperatures?
Would be grateful of any info or help on this , thanks
Anthony.

Hello,
I've looked for your old post for more info . but couldn't find it,

as you say it sounds as if the plugs are fine - but something in the timer / relay circuit is patchy,

I'm not too familiar with your years layout do I'll let somebody else do the how-to's, (y)

Thanks for the reply Varesecrazy, the old post stated very much the same but I also added that once running in the cold weather if I stopped at lights or anything after driving for a short period I would turn the engine off and when switching back on the glow plug light would work as normal, just will not come on when it's cold? the relay clicking is not so loud when it's warm and the light comes on but when it's cold and the light does not come on the relay clicks loudly?.
Thanks

The loud clicking is when its driving the diesel solenoid for the flame starter, easiest thing to do it take off the intake pipe and see it its working no point in trying to fix the light if its working.

Cheers Moodrater,
Sorry for sounding like a complete idiot but diesel engines are not my strong point, in fact car mechanics are not :), the clicking which I thought was a relay seems to be coming from a green box above the battery with a red and brown lead coming from it?, I have tried to trace any pipes and leads from this to the engine block but am lost amongst all the other leads and pipes?, any clue as to what I am looking for would be appreciated, could go to a garage but would like to get to know my way around a bit for future ref.
PS. Is there a way of knowing if I actually do have plugs and not thermo start engine without taking the cover off?
Thanks Again.(y)

Thermostarter is clearly visible on top of the intake on the right, intake gets good and hot when its running anyway.

Thermostarter plug is 11 in this image, 10 is the solenoid.

2.8 turbo never had glow plugs according to eper

Thanks again mooderator,
Have found the thermostart plug and solenoid, when I trace the wires from the plug and solenoid they go back to the green box above the battery where the loud clicking is coming from when cold, is this a relay for the solenoid and plug?
When you say take the intake pipe off to see if it's working do I remove pipe and turn ignition to see if plug is working?
Again apologies for my amateurism.

Yep remove the hose from the intercooler, turn the ignition when its cold enough obviously they glow red hot.
