Hi all,

Just wondering if someone technical minded on Ducato's could help with a strange fault.

I just purchased a Fiat Ducato Van 1.9 Diesel.

When I turn the steering wheel full lock to the left the left spring will make a DING, then the van steering will pull to the left when driving, about as much weight as holding 1/2 bag of sugar. Yet if I was to after doing a full lock on the steering to the left and the ding, do a full lock to the right it will make another ding on the left yet also ding on the right and then will not pull when driving.

Now the ding on the right does not pull and only will ding if the left has.

hmmmm hope your getting this coz it's confusing me already. Ding Ding.

kk now sure what the hell is going on, yet my brother who is good with mechanics said it could be a rubber mount on the steering rack.

I am just wondering if anyone has had any ding dings on their van or know of anything that this could be.

I would be extremely dinging appreciative of any light you could shed on my dinging ding :)

Thanks for your time and much appreciation.

Strut bearings at the top of the shock tiny little rollers unsealed rust away to nothing.

Thanks Guys, awesome at least I know what it is now.

If you don't mind me asking is it a headache job and is it expensive?

Anyone on forums do that kind of stuff at sensible rates?

Thanks again and much appreciated.

VinTon.

Bearings are about £30 from fiat seals only a couple of quid if worn you need a deep socket to take off the shock. I'd say if you brought the parts to an independent garage you'd get it done for 50 quid
