Hi everyone. Just completed a 5 week 2000 mile trip around Portugal and Spain in my 1998 FD 1.9 TD motorhome. No major problem until last week when it became difficult changing down from 3rd to 2nd gear. No problems changing up. Gear either crunching or going into 4th. New clutch about 3 months ago but can't see why this would be related. Has anyone had similar problem and if so what was cause and remedy. Cheers

Had a similar problem recently on a 2001 ducato with 1.9TD, turned out to be water in the gear box. Try getting the gearbox drained and refilled. It seems water can run down the speedo cable or something??

Hi blow51. Thats a strange one. Not heard of that before. Why would it affect only 2nd gear change though. Still will get it checked out by my garage mechanic. Have read the earlier threads on gearbox problems so it could be one out of many reasons. No harm in getting the gearbox oil changed.

i have a motorhome 2001 swift lifesyle 1.9TD the third gear was grinding and i tried to get it repaired under a warranty i bought for 700.00.pounds called customer protect but they said it was not covered because it was fair wear and tear, i drained the gearbox oil and changed it to EP 90-140 which is a really thick oil , now its as good as new , at the moment its selects gear cleanly with no problems at all , robin

PS dont waste your money buying customer protect warranty your be unable to claim if things go
